If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen
thanks Chris.unfortunately my laptop never boots up, totally blank. no HDD led flashing. I guess somehow the motherboard has been damaged.
Try this too.
The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.
Thanks again Chris. That's a good point. I've already checked out the RAM many times and now I am doubting the RAM, too. I'll test the RAM from other laptop or put another RAM on my laptop.

I don't know "where" you worked on it, but I hope you were'nt standing on carpet when you did.If everything is connectrd the way it was, then the only thing I can think of is ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) damage.
SOURCE: wont start or boot up
I had the same problem and found that disconnecting the power lead and repositioning the ribbon cable from the on switch did the job after about 5 attempts
SOURCE: power lights are on , but screen wont come on?
Have this check to your nearest brand service center. There might be problems on the video card. This might be due to excessive heat that is frying the parts of the laptop. This is a common problem for Toshiba laptops. Kindly check the exhaust if there is a clogging dirt, this is the main reason of excessive heating aside from the prolong use of your laptop. My best advise is go to the nearest service center.
