Re:
Playback problems with a DVD typically are caused by one of four factors: The DVD is dirty and smudged; the laser lens in the DVD player's disc drive needs cleaning; the DVD player no longer is tracking properly; or the disc is scratched. Before you throw away that DVD or turn it into a Frisbee, try these steps to determine whether the problem is truly with the disc. If so, look into whether it can be repaired. If all else fails, make friends with the clerks at your local movie-rental outlet, who encounter plenty of damaged discs and may have the know-how and equipment needed to fix them.
If you still can't fix your Disney DVD, you can also download digital Disney movies on computer. Here is a tutorial including detailed steps: How to Download Disney Movies?

Apparently this is a known issue. Some dvp642 players have compatibility issues with some of the Disney DVD's. A firmware update might help.

Report the error to Samsung support. There is an ongoing problem with the firmware. Make sure you have updated to the most recent firmware version 1025.0 that was released this month. There are still unresolved problems with the new firmware release though. Many movies will fail to load and other will load and play but will skip/freeze during playback. This is related to the anti-piracy features on the Blu-Ray that the player can not properly handle.
Usually most DVD's play movie trailers and sometimes advertisement before the movie will play. Once the ads or trailers are done it should go to the menu screen and at that point "play" or something like that should be underlined. If it is you can press play or select on the DVD player then the movie should start : )
It goes back to the DVD menu. Some DVD menus have little animations of characters from the movie talking to you telling you to start the movie or something. You could definitely go somewhere with that. Also, some DVD players have a sleep timer on them so they turn off automatically or just show the start up screen which usually says the brand name of the device.
Is the player new? If it's a new DVD player and still under warranty, I would return it, exchange it or possibly, consider changing brands: perhaps to a Phillips brand DVD player. After all, the Phillips corporation guarantees its DVD players will play everything, just read the box in which the player's packaged - it's the best bang for your buck. With DVD players being so inexpensive these days, the best option is to buy new. Keep computing Chomskyites.
Might be the type of movie - some of them are only able to play "G" ratings. Try this: click <play> 1234 <play> It will likely unlock the dvd that is in and will begin to play. You will have to do the 'code' each time, or there's an unlock program you can purchase.
Are you trying to play a DVD-ROM? Some sets won't play anything but conventional movies, leaving you to put the disc in a computer to watch it...accordianman
