Half the screen is pink when online then is green colour when just normal start up sreen with lines through it
Hi,
This can be one of three problems:
1 - The cable that connects your screen to your laptops motherboard has come loose. If the problem is intermittent or can be rectified by moving the screen / holding the laptop upside down then its this.
2 - The graphics card on your laptop has a fault. This is quite common with laptops that overheat.
3 - The LCD on your laptop has developed a fault.
The first issue can be fixed by taking the laptop apart and checking the cables, but beware - this is normally quite a complex job. The second and third issues will require replacement parts which can be quite expensive. Try to get a quote from a local PC technician (don't go to PC world...) and weigh up if the repair cost is worth it or wether you just just put that laptop on ebay (list it as faulty) and buy a new one.
Hope that helps!

first try to hook it into an external monitor if it looks good,I would have to say you have a damaged cable on your monitor.if you are comfortable taking it apart you can try to reseat the ribbon cable on the mobo.you can usually find an online manual for disassembly.

This is caused by burn out of the Nvidia graphics chip on the motherboard. You need a new motherboard. This is due to a design flaw (the subject of a class action against HP in the USA). I have had two motherboards fail on me in this way so far - do not expect any worthwhile support from the HP "support" people they are all in India and can hardly communicate outside of their simple repetative scripts. Its impossible to escape them - I tried communicating with head office but all you get is contact details back to the incomprehensible Indian call centre. I strongly recommend against ever purchasing from HP again.
SOURCE: Display problem
could be 2 main causes, either the LCD converter under or behind the screen under the beizel has failed and is messing up the display, or simply the sreen could have been cracked at one point, either way these parts have to be obtained from toshiba.. EMPR do toshibas spare parts, if you are in australia

That sounds like a problem with your GPU, this is very common with Nvidia graphics cards when built onto motherboards for mobile devices. First contact HP to see if you have any warranty with them, if not then you can either look for a company that specialises in board repair in your area or if you are brave try a DIY fix. Search 'motherboard DIY reflow' on google or youtube to see an example.
Hope this helps,
