Question about Sony VAIO PCV-W20 PC Desktop
I turn the computer on and the monitor won't come on. The fan comes on but there is nothing on the monitor. The num lock light comes on the keyboard, but nothing else. Any help would be great
Actually its not any of the above solutions. The W20 is Sonys all in one unit answer to apples iMac. I have a PCV-W20 and the computer will boot up show the windows logo for a split second and the backlight goes out, if you hit del and f4 to go into the bios it will get to the bios screen for a fraction of a second and turn off aswell. I pulled the backpanel apart and reset the cmos, nothing changed so I thought it was a bad backlight and replaced it. Actually its the video inverter board that is bad. Its a known issue with these because they run hot, however the part to replace it from sony is $375.... I have been looking on ebay and around for a 3rd party part but havnt been able to find one for the last 6 months.

What is the color of the led on the monitor?

This could be the bios looking for the boot.ini file or a faulty driver, try pressing F8 on boot up and when prompted with an options screen, select 'Last Known Good Configuration. and press enter. The pc should restart and boot into windows. If no boot then try, if you can using your monitor on a friends pc to check if the monitor is faulty or the software.

Hi, if you dont get any picture on the monitor except no signal or blank, could be a couple of things, 1 the monitor try a spare if u have, or another common problem could be graphics card, try removing graphics card and refitting it, :-) John
