Have someone stand with their ear up to the filler cap (remove fuel cap) and turn the key to on position. They should be able to hear the fuel pump "humm" if it is working. It will only "humm" for a few seconds until it builds up pressure and it will stop until the engine is started. If you do not hear any noise from the fuel tank, the pump is probably out.

See if you have fuel getting to the injectors

your fuel pump may have gone out or something is blocking the fuel from getting to the carb

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2008

the filter could be anywhere in between the carb and fuel pump but the pump is on top of the fuel tank under the bed

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2008

to test it just disconnnect the line at the fuel filter then see if it squirts fuel out if it dose then the pump is fine

You have not run a OBD2 electronic engione control fault code test, get a code reader and do that first and don't replace anymore parts until that is done and you have the fault codes and have done the proper diagnostics for each code.

99 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD turns over, wont fire

I had a similar problem and believe it or not it was the CAT. An easy way to test for this is to remove the O2 sensor right in front of the CAT. Once you removed it, plug it back in while unscrewed from the exhaust pipe and start up the truck. If it runs fine, the CAT is your problem. This is just a guess and it would be an easy and very cheap($0) test. You did not say if the truck was diesel or gas. Mine is gas that was exhibiting the same problem as yours...good luck!
