Grounded or shorted compressor. remove power. remove compressor leads and tape off . does breaker stop tripping? if it stays set on, then compressor is gounded or shorted. if it still trips then wiring or condensor fan is shorted or grounded, remove wires there and test same way . the item you disconnect that keeps breaker from tripping is your shorted or grounded item. usually the compressor. time for all new 410 a equipment. r22 is obsolete and out of production next year and equipment, and oils ,and gases dont mix at all. it must be all or nothing. don't invest a big cash repair in something unusable in a few years. good luck.

Payne gas fired forced air furnaces, model 394gad, replaced transformer was shorted out,and blower motor , started throwing sparks, also the capacitor was five bucks.

for somebody to jump the fuse it tells me there is a low voltage wiring problem. likely have a bad tstat wire somewhere. blower not turning on in auto usually means you have a G wire hooked up to the tstat and the tstat is set for gas heat, needs to be set to electric heat when G wire in place. there's a good start, NEW TSTAT WIRE and proper settings

3 amp fuse blows when call for gas after pilot runs for 30 seconds

check the blower motor for seized of burnt out. Fuses blow because of excess current draw and in this case if the fan is not starting everything will stop. The gas will be set so that if the fan is not running the gas will not be allowed to turn on

Electric Furnace stopped running

You have one of two problems. Either the capacitor for the motor has failed or the motor has failed. I would turn off the power to the unit and see if you can locate the capacitor and remove it. An ac supply or electrical supply house can match up the capacitor. This is relatively inexpensive. Otherwise you will need a new motor.

I HAVE A 2 1/2 TON PACKAGE HEAT PUMP . THE60 AMP BREAKER AT THE DISCONNECT BOX KEPT TRIPPING . I DISCONNECTED THE HEAT STRIPS AND NOW THE 60 AMP BREAKER ISNT TRIPPING . WHAT IS CAUSING MY BREAKER TO T

You need to check the current rating of your heat strips. If it is more than 60 amps then you need a bigger breaker. If 60 amps or less then your heat strips are going bad. Also make sure your fan turns smoothly without any wobble.

Had 16 xi Trane heat pump installed 3 years ago. It ran well for the first couple of years. It began to stop heating and would blow cold air only. Have tried both aux heat and reg. heat to run and neither...

That's a complicated system that needs a qualified technician to service it. Lots of people can install them and they run fine, for a few years. Your indoor unit, operating on 2 heat elements, will feel like its blowing cold air even though its heating, just not so well. And not like you are accustomed to. Each element (5kw)=22.7amps, on average. So 3 elements operating should trip a breaker. Its probably been operating on 2 heat element plus the heat pump. And now you have trouble with the heat pump. If you can't TRUST the guys working on your equipment, try someone else. A second opinion. Normally a 3 or 4 ton unit will have 15kw heat installed, heatpump or not. 5 ton, 20kw. If yours is a 3-4ton, cooling, the 100amp(or normally two 60 amp) breaker should have been installed upon equipment change out. If yours is blowing cold all the time, something is wrong with your heatpump. The electric heat inside operates only when the heatpump can't keep up(real cold outside), the heatpump is in defrost(then it's actually in cooling mode), or if you have the tstat in aux/em. heat. Try a local trane dealer? Of a technician with 15-20 yrs under their belt. A trane dealer should have trane tech support also. BIG HELP!!!

Some companies do sell a variable speed kit. It includes the motor and controls. Get your model and serial number of your unit and contact your local Payne dealer. The can locate the proper kit if available for you.

Air will not blow out makes a noise from time to time from heater and air

hello I'm an M.B. tech. this is a common problem for that era. I t sounds like your blower motor is worn ou and occasionally it will rotate slightly. 1st I would check the fuses. During this era those fuses were not in the box. although the lid may say blower fuse outside fuse box. Often times they are a strip fuse inline with the blower harness. Generally they are located by the brake master cyl. They supply voltage to the blower motor resister pack. Some vehicles had 3 strip fuses 1 for each speed. The resister pack is called a blower mot regulator. It should be accessible from you passenger side underdash panel. assuming your fuses are good. Most likley it is the blower motor regulater
