It should be threaded to the crank. On the end of the clutch it is hex shaped. I always used a metric socket and impact to pop them off. I am pretty sure they are left hand thread and there should be marked with "off" and an arrow showing this.

Stihl saw ts 410, starter rope keeps going slack

I would pull off the starter assembly and blow it out with compressed air or water to remove any crud that is causing the bind.

Stihl ts 400 has stopped working and sounds rough when pulling the cord

Sounds bad, the only answer here is to pull the cylinder off and check the condition of the internals, if there is a lot of dust behind the filter and into the back of the carb the engine is going to be in need of rebuild.

Hi, my Stihl ts 400 blade runs at idle.I have tried adjusting the idle down as far as I can but it still turns.

seems that ur clutch is sticking.take recoil caseing of and check by turning blade by hand,if you feel the engine turning over, then your clutch drum is sticking,be sure to remove ur spark plug cap! it will be the bearing at the rear of the clutch drum, maybe a little oil and a few turns will help it free itself.hope this helps.

Hi,my stihl ts 410 saw cuts out after about 10 minutes work,it restarts soon after then cuts out after about 10 minutes again? any ideas, thanks dave

Sounds like an overheating problem.
Are you working in a well-ventilated area or in direct sunlight?
Check, if you can, the temperature of the motor case.
You might have to take a break more often.
This hot summer has stressed a lot of motors and electronics.
When it shuts off you know it is trying to save itself from burnout.

How do i get the lower screws out of the filter housing when their striped in my ts 420 saw? It's just spinning in the plastic, and what real German would use plastic anyway?! I need some tips please-geoff...

I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. REALLY NO GOOD SOLUTION.. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE ONLY ONE SCREW. I HAD TO PRY COVER OFF AS BEST I COULD WITH THE SCEWS STILL INTACT.EVEN AFTER GETTING THE COVER OFF I COULD NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS WITHOUT POSSIBLY DAMAGING MORE OF THE SAW. I CAN NOW SLIDE THE COVER ON OVER THE PROTRUDING SCEWS AND HOLD IT IN PLACE WITH THE ONE I COULD GET OUT WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM DUCT TAPE. THE WORST DESIGN I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR AN EXPENSIVE TOOL. SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THE TS400. A SIMPLER MORE PRACTICAL DESIGN. I GUESS THEY EXPECT YOU TO REMOVE AND CLEAN AND OIL THESE SCREWS DAILY. PHIL

Hi there; my stihl ts 420 does not start easily

replace the decompression valve. also check for carbon buildup on top of piston. usually when a saw stops on its own after 5 min or so.... the piston and jug are scored and need to be replaced.
