Dimension 2400 is at 1.5MG - will not go to 2.0MG per manual!

Dimension memory problem as follows: I had 2 X 512MB of RAM for 1.0 MB of memory. I bought 2 x 1024MB chips to upgrade per manual and installed one. The system recognized the new 1024MB chip and shows the ram as 1.5mg. I shut down and the second 512MG with the second new 1024MB and the computer would not start. Check trouble lights in back of computer per manual and it indicated a memory problem. Remove second 1024MB and reinstalled old 512MB - computer worked fine at 1.5MB again. (I am doing this upgrade to two computer so I have four new chips). I then removed the second old 512MB chip and put in a third new 1024MB chip. Same problem - no start and trouble lights show the same malfunction. Check BIOS and it is correct. Check F2 - setup at start... it is OK. Out of options. The new chips are - 1024MB 400Mhz DDR 1GB PC3200 Low DensityFSB - which are compatable for the Dimension 2400... Question.. The PC3200 are supposed to be backward (DDR) compatable with PC2700. Everything I read say that is so. My 512MB Chips are PC2700 (the dimension 2400 is a PC2700 system) and the new 1024's are PC3200. QQQ... Is the PC3200 backward compatable only when a PC2700 is present. In other words... I my computer read (when 2 x 1024 PC3200 installed) PC2300 and the chips are not backing to PC2700 therefore system will not start. That is the only reasoning I can figure... Would like someone else opinion and advise. Thanks - Mark

Yeah thats a normal issue with the dimension 2400 as the older bios only supports a max of 1gb of memory you will need to go to the dell website which ive linked below and get the bios update which will give you support up to 2gb-pc3200 ddr memory

I have a Dell Dimension 2400. I want to upgrade from 512mb of memory to 1GB. The manual says I have two memory connectors. Do I get the 1GB, or two 512mb to upgrade? Thank you for your response.

Hello

Yes, you can upgrade your system upto 2GB RAM, buy another 512MB RAM DDR 333Mhz and install it to empty slot of RAM, it will upgrade the RAM to 1 GB.

Hope it will help, if so do rate the solution

Not recognizing memory.

The Asus P4S800-X MB can use Dual channel DDR memory and single channel memory. The dual channel memory which comes in matching packs. (Normally 2 DIMMS per pack) is the faster memory.
In other words if you are installing, 4- 512MB DIMMS of PC3200 all memory should be matched,
or you're MB may not see all connected DIMM'S.

See page vii in you're manual. If you're running windows XP, Home or Pro edition the bios will show up to 4GB of memory installed but windows XP 32bit will only show 3GB of memory. As mentioned above all 4 of you're 512MB of memory should be dual channel and run at the same speed. You can run both single channel and dual channel but you must follow Table 1 in you're manual. (1-9).
Example; PC3200 400MHz.
Or 4-512MB PC2700 333MHz. See page 1-9 for memory configurations and the QVL list supported.
Check out Asus FAQ's; http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4S800D-X&product=6&os=17

This should help you configure the memory.
Good luck!

SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK AFTER INSTALLING NEW MEMORY ON DELL 3000 DIMENSION FROM 512MG TO 2GB

the new memory is not comaptible, remove it and install the old memory...it should work...RAMs are very delicate component...even though they look good some are not compatible....if u install a 400mhz RAM to a MB that can take only 333Mhz then it will cause a problem...
also if ur MB is capable of taking only 512MB per slot then 1GB in one slot will not work

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Want to kow how much ram I can add and where to buy it.

Hi

Dimension 2350 Series has two memory connectors and supports non-ECC PC2100 (266-MHz) DDR SDRAM memory modules. Supported memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB. The maximum (total) memory is 1GB.

Regarding where you could buy? I suppose you can check you local PC store. There is always eBay if you fancy.

Problem with Mercury PI845GVM motherboard

fine ur problem if very simple as u installed 512 mb RAM on ur pc if at possible try to connect on to the other slot and restart the computer and check ur RAM capacity in ur os if it shows as same 256mb then ur have to change ur virtual memory settings i.e memory allocated to the video so configure ur virtual memory as per requirement then free up RAM memory ..

Steps for virtual memory configuration.

  1. Open System in Control Panel.
  2. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
  3. On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
  4. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
  5. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set. If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.
