I have a Mitsubishi CS-31205, and a black box appears in the center of the picture, covering probably 90% of the screen. The sound still functions, and the box will disappear upon changing the channel, only to reappear after about 5 seconds.
To be exact it is in the TEXT mode within the Closed Caption menus.

The closed caption is turned on. I don't have the schematic in front of me, so, I will wing it. There may be a button on the remote that says CC, if so then use that button to turn it off, if not then go to the service menu and you may have to search a bit. Either way it's an easy fix and you can do it yourself. If you can't find it, then, reply and I will give better instructions when I get into my shop next week.
