To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address

I have to internet subscription.I connected it to the router but when i tried to connect the router to my laptop, i cant browse to any site (internet connection is very ok).

The router that you have is a Dual-Wan router, specifically designed for hooking up 2 cable modems at the same time to the same router. If you do not have such a set-up I would recommend purchasing a Netgear Wireless-N router for $40 at Walmart, or any store really. The Dual Wan routers can be finicky at times, and is overkill for any normal use of internet bandwidth.

I recently purchased this router and the setup was fine, however I am only able to view certain web pages. Google works fine, and yahoo mail allows the log in page to come up, but doesn't allow me to...

Router with limited/controlled/restricted access to websites???? New one. Surprised really; I must submit.

Such scenario only happens with Corporate companies' internet access.
In any case, maybe you should try "private browsing" or "browsing incognito" in your chosen web browser and see if access is still denied/restricted to sites online.

Another approach is to try browsing using a VPN (virtual private network) and see what happens.

Last option, you may have to contact your Network service provider company (those that allocated internet data access to you) and lodge a complaint.

If all these don't help, either you return the router ASAP and request a replacement/new one instead or you are having network signal/bandwidth issue in your area.

No internet gaming on any platform works. All

If you are using a router by default special ports are disabled.... so you need to know the port number that those certain games are using so you can open or forward the ports on your router settings to allow you access to the games.

Did a factory restore, set up wireless, can browse internet via a neighbours unsecured network, but cant on mine. can log in to router wirelessly but thats it no internet

Dide you set up the wireless on your router? If you have done this and you have it set for None for security, you will also be "unsecured", BUT you still have a name (SSID) to identify your network. Check that your internet is set for "Private" access, if you are presented the option between Private and Public.

Old xbox 360 & netgear are fine. but i cant get new xbox 360 to hook up to netgear. after i put the pass code in it still wont hook it up(online). it has full bars . its wireless. what should i do?

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router usually http://192.168.1.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
3. Login to the router with the Username as admin and password as password (unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

now scan for the wireless network on the XBOX and connect to the wireless network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Wireless speed

The answer to this is yes and no.

Wireless speeds are not up to gigabit on any router that I know of. You may be able to have a wired Gigabit connection on a wireless router, but not wireless. But this would not speed up your Internet browsing (wireless or not).

A new router would probably improve your Internet browsing speed, but perhaps not for the reason you may think.

1, Your line speed has probably increased since you purchased your current router and a new router would probably deal with it better.
2, You may be able to put a new wireless card in your PC that would allow you to use G or some of the other faster wireless connection methods.

Ultimately your Internet browsing speed is governed by the line speed, the contention in your area, the general speed of the Internet. Changing your router will just help make your internal network traffic more efficient.

Here is a Good Guide from Microsoft that I would follow BEFORE spending any money.

http://tech.msn.com/howto/articlepcw.aspx?cp-documentid=6555722

Basically what it says is 1, ensure you have a clean connection to the Internet, 2, update all your firmware so that every thing is as good as it can be.

Read the article, do what it says and then consider if you need to upgrade the router. At the end of the day your Internet speed will never be better than the speed that you have paid for. If you pay for 2Mb and http://www.speedtest.net says you are getting 1.9Mb then you are doing well and the best you can improve things is by .1Mb. Maybe you need to get a faster connection.

If you pay for 2Mb and you are only getting 1Mb (and you have done all the recomendations) Maybe you need a new router.

Hope this helps

Cannot access the internet after installing new NetGear router.

you need to change the IP address of the router. Plug just the router into the computer. Open Internet Explorer and go to 192.168.1.1. user: admin password:password. On the main page it allows you to change the LAN IP. Make it 192.168.2.1. Now unplug everything and rewire it correctly. This should fix the issue. Verizon uses 192.168.1.1 for the modem well so does Netgear and this causes the network to not function. So changing the IP of the router should fix this issue and has worked for me many times that I have done that set up.

Can only connect to LAN, no internet access

Check for a vaild gateway address on router,start.run.cmd> type in ipconfig.if you dont have a valid ip or gatway. try a powercycle, turn off modem and then router, wait about 10-20 sec and plug modem back in. check your ip and gateway check for a connection, if that dont work call netgear to see if u have a defaulted router, or take it back for new one if u still have a recicpt.
