I think I just fixed a unit with the same problem. I opened the cover and found where the wire from the headphone jack plugs into a board just beside the power supply transformer. When removed, the unit appeared to select speakers as the output. Since the headphones are never used by the owner, I simply left the headphone cable unplugged. Unfortunately, I didn't have speakers to test it with but the unit appeared to be working correctly.
Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
If you can listen to sound from any other means, as you said via headphones, then the Audio drivers are working ok. The issue is with your Hardware unit; i.e Speakers (The In-built speakers).
I hope you are getting the picture.
Concerned, Nooh
plug in head phones
Go to control panel
go to multifunction sound machine or similiar audio adjuster
if there is an auto detecter click yes ok etc. to turn it on
if not then click headphones under speaker adjustments apply then ok
try then if not try a different pair of head phones some arent pc compatible
or jack could have probs hope this helps
I had the same problem with my computer, where there was no sound because it showed that there was earphones plugged in.
The problem was the the earphone unit on my front USB pannel was a bit worn out, so it shoted out. I just took it to a repair shop and an hour later all was fixed up perfectly for very cheap. You should maybe try it. Please rate if this worked for you.
If headphones work then so does the amplifier. When did this problem start? From what I can find it almost sounds like it thinks you have headphones plugged in, which would disable the speakers.
I would say it is because the unit does not have a built in amplifier. The speakers are powered PC speakers of studio monitors I am guessing. Try plugging the headphones into the headphone jack of the speakers if they have a headphone jack or try a set of powered headphones out of the Edirol and see if it helps.
Hi... On some stereo gear the headphone jack interrupts the speaker connection when the headphones are in. you "might" have something broken in the headphone jack which is keeping the speakers from turning on. Is there a MUTE switch on the unit? Or an "External speaker off" thingy in the menu?
turn your speakers up and moisten your finger. touch the jack plug that inserts into the pc, if you hear the speakers buzz/crackle then they are ok. If not I would try a new lead if possible, else speakers are u/s as if headphones work then speakers should as well as use the same output from the pc, just amplify it unlike headphones. You could also check in the cpanel to see if your speakers are set to speakers and not headphones but to be honest I cant see this stopping the speakers altogether.
check the audio out port..A faulty port can result in the on board speaker cutting out or muting out. try connectting an external speaker jack into the audio out port and slightly wiggle it.
I do not recommend but open up the unit and check for dry solder at the speaker end
If all ok, it might be a faulty speaker coil. replace with similar impedence
HAVE SAME PROBLEM BUT NEED TO KNOW WHAT WAS THE COMPONENT YOU FOUND BAD.
