I installed a Hunter type 3 ceiling fan. The motor house gets hot enough to burn your fingers and you can smell burning paint. It only gets hot when the fan is on. I does not get hot when the fan is off or if the fan is off and the lights are on. I rechecked wiring and it is correct. Why is the motor housing get so hot. Should I return the fan?

See my post below: (Sorry, we're in the same boat!)
Hunter ceiling fan with remote, have 5, 4 are seriously impaired! Lights dim to half strengh after variable time 10 seconds-30 minutes. And lights or fan turns on randomly (come home & fan on full blast), and one in which the lights won't dim (just blinks when try to dim)! Hunter "kinda" admits there is serious problem with remote but doesn't have a solution. Tells people to try changing to different code/channel on the remote due to possible interference (pain in **** to change code on ceiling base!), was totally ineffective. Then replaced receiver in ceiling base (another total pain) in 3 fans with new ones sent Hunter, still totally useless. Hunter's suggestion, don't use the remote, just use the pull chain. If I had wanted a pull chain fan, I'd have bought a pull chain fan. TOTALLY USELESS! Moral of story: If you want a remote ceiling fan (my friend found out that all their remotes are made by the same company in Taiwan), don't buy Hunter!!!!!
- P.S. I found a "Kinda"- fix for the lights dimming to half strenth. After turning on the lights, wait 1 second, then dim lights slightly, they will then stay on the strength that you dim them to.
- P.P.S. When I changed the receiver in the one where the lights won't dim, it "solved" that problem...Now it has the same problem as the others, lights or fan turn on randomly!

SOURCE: Hunter fan wiring
sounds like one of your connections is loose. Im not sure if i completely understand your description of how you re-hoked up your fan. Please tell me how many wires your fan has and colors and how many wires you have on the sensor remote. (lots of times if you draw a wiring diagram on paper you can figure it out) Basically you should have power coming from ceiling to remote sensor. Then the remote sensor should throw the power to either the fan or the light, so there should be two seperate leads coming out of the remote sensor to control either the fan or the light independantly.
Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/matthew_d24b835e574ef6ca
SOURCE: hunter 'lodge' ceiling fan w/light:
if problems with the light blinking, remove watt governor inside fan, for lights. and wire the lghts directly. this should fix problem. the watt governor is a small black box to reduce wattage on the lghts. just remove it and wire lights directly. have a good one !!
SOURCE: The light on my hunter ceiling fan flashes on and
remove watt governor for lights. ( little black box). and wire lights direct. this is your problem.watt governors are used to reduce light output or energy. just remove it.
