You need a dvd player program that is designed for dvd playback I use Cyberlink powerdvd to play dvd's on my pc you could look for another player out there but windows needs a codec to play dvds with sound. hope this solves your problem

Realtek audio sound distorted when playing dvd

The dvd drive has a cable that goes to your sound card. The sound card plays the audio that comes out of the DVD drive. I would try a CD in the drive, alternately try another drive (if using a desktop computer), or try another sound card if you have one. Try another DVD player application (software), it could be a bad codec used for that player.

I have the Netbook and just bought an external DVD so I can watch movies on my flight to England.... Movies play fine, but there is no sound!

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager

Click [+] next to DVD/CD-ROM drives, double-click the drive in question.
In Properties tab, make sure the box is ticked next to
Enable Digital CD-Audio for this Device

Hopefully you'll have sound after this.

I can't get my coby DVD 937 to play sound while watching tv. It works fine while playing a DVD or CD????

there should be an input line of just audio cable hookups (one red and one white) that you have to run and an output cable from your tv audio output of just red and white. make sure the tv says output or line out and the surround sound system says input or line in

Audio problem by DVD Play

You need to check to see if the dvd drive is set to digital playback because
it is probably trying to find your on board AC97 - 5.1 digital output. With
a music CD it doesn't have to be connected digitially because it uses analog
for stereo playback but most DVD's - if a movie - are set to playback in
digital. Open 'My Computer', right click on your DVD drive, select
properties, select hardware, highlight your DVD drive, click on properties,
then properties again, check- Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM
device.
