This is a replacement for an Axim that would hang up more and more frequently until it didn't work at all. This ones back up battery has gone bad more and more frequently until now the battery will go to 0% and not charge up in a week or two and I lost all my info. Is this a known issue and what would probably be the solution and cost. Or is this just a crappy model that is always going to have something wrong with it.

Re: dell axim x5 back-up battery
It is a knows issue for the backup battery not to take charge once they reache 0%. The backup battery is a pretty crappy NiCD cell. As the job it is supposed to do is pretty important I recomand to have it changed. For most PDA's this is a standard 3V battery. You should have your pda dissasembled and either have the battery manually charged (to see if the PDA can handle it later) or simply have it changed. This shouldn't be an expensive repair. For more info, feel free to reply. Good luck.
I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? http://www.batteryfast.co.uk

I use AS 4.1. I think the Axim will use up to AS 4.5. I had no problems with sync until SP3 came out. Now I must resart the computer with the Axim connected to sync. If the computer goes into suspend it will no longer connect until restarted.
Attempt a restart with it connected.
I have known others with no ability to get the Axim and other devices to be recognized. Unaware of a solution in that case.
Some people have said that the original ppc2002 ROM has battery draining problems. If this is something new, perhaps it is a bad battery. Ebay for a new one.
If you think it might be a software problem and you have ppc2002-also known as Windows Mobile 2002, upgrade your Axim with the A04 ROM:http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R63937&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X5&servicetag=&os=PPC&osl=en&deviceid=4434&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=7&fileid=82832
Chances are there is a flash update on Dell's support site http:\\support.dell.com that will take care of this issue.
Hope that helps!
