Dell axim x5 back-up battery

This is a replacement for an Axim that would hang up more and more frequently until it didn't work at all. This ones back up battery has gone bad more and more frequently until now the battery will go to 0% and not charge up in a week or two and I lost all my info. Is this a known issue and what would probably be the solution and cost. Or is this just a crappy model that is always going to have something wrong with it. Bob Thornton

how can i recharge my pocket pc backup battery , it has always 0% amount of charging. thank you.

I have had the same problem. Replacing the backup battery with a new one has not solved the problem as the new backup is drained almost immediately even with a fully charged main battery.

Is there an internal fix? How?

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2008

Yep...same problem. I have installed the CR2032 new back up battery numerous times, and get the error message that "back up battery is low" after two days. If I turn the unit off and do a "soft reset" then it shows 100% on back up battery for a couple days, then the problem comes back. The brass contacts have been cleaned numerous times the help minimize a "bad contact" issue. Very frustrated....any suggestions??

I have bought several backup batteries and they continue to go down. I purchased a replacement 3.7DC Model F0089 in hopes it would solve the problem but has not.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas of how to solve my problem!

I've had this problem on 3 of 4 axim x5's and having tried all the fixes with no sucsess, I'm thinking it is ether a defect in the hardware or even worse, a poison pill built in :( Bought a new HP 2795b,hoping that it would be my solution, only to have it drain down completely twice sitting in my truck for less than a day.Since the backup on the x5 only becomes important if the main completly discharges,I'm gonna run these axims till they are dust!!

I have the same problem with the backup battery needing replaced. I am faced with deciding to get a new pda or not. Has anyone found a solution?

Even though there is a brand new button cell battery installed, ever so often, ranging from once every 2 days to several times a day occassionally, the warning will come up saying that the back-up battery is low and to replace. Often, if I do a soft reset, then look at the battery meter, it will read 100% for the back-up battery. Then, after an unknown amount of time, this process will have to be repeated. I am not sure if this is a bad contact issue or if it is a hardware issue, but it is an annoyance with the unit. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance none the less.

The Dell Axim x5 does not recharge the backup battery, only the primary battery. The backup battery can be replaced and purchased at any Walmart store for about $5.

It is a knows issue for the backup battery not to take charge once they reache 0%. The backup battery is a pretty crappy NiCD cell. As the job it is supposed to do is pretty important I recomand to have it changed. For most PDA's this is a standard 3V battery. You should have your pda dissasembled and either have the battery manually charged (to see if the PDA can handle it later) or simply have it changed. This shouldn't be an expensive repair. For more info, feel free to reply. Good luck.

For the guest who replied that x5 doesn't recharge the backup battery. I'm sorry to say, but it does, as the battery is always connected to a 2.73 - 3.12 V output from the main converter on the PDA's mainboard. If however the internal resistance of the battery rises to much or an imperfect contact takes place, the mainboard woun't supply this current anymore. You are right, as NiCD chemestry for this batteries doesn't allow actually charging but the PDA will keep this battery to 100% by ..charging it. Kind of weird...

I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this?

Dell Axim X5 Backup battery

CR2032 battery. Backup your information first.

We have a Dell Axim X5 that we are trying to connect to a PC. Have obtained a USB data/power sync cable, the Dell appears to charge from this cable however, ActiveSync on the source PC doesn't recognise...

I use AS 4.1. I think the Axim will use up to AS 4.5. I had no problems with sync until SP3 came out. Now I must resart the computer with the Axim connected to sync. If the computer goes into suspend it will no longer connect until restarted.

Attempt a restart with it connected.

I have known others with no ability to get the Axim and other devices to be recognized. Unaware of a solution in that case.

Backup battery discharging

hi thanks for using fixya!

You have to bring your Dell Axim X5 PPC to a service center, to check further the back up battery if needs to change it.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

Axim X5 just does not RESPOND!

I'm not sure but after that long, could it be the back up battery?

My Dell Axim X5 400MHz Pocket PC wont hold the charge

Some people have said that the original ppc2002 ROM has battery draining problems. If this is something new, perhaps it is a bad battery. Ebay for a new one.

If you think it might be a software problem and you have ppc2002-also known as Windows Mobile 2002, upgrade your Axim with the A04 ROM:

Other Axim stuff here (make sure to choose the correct operating system - ppc 2002 or ppc 2003):

Good Eevening :

You could get original disk from ebay at times but all you need is the Activesync that can be downloaded from Microsoft. Get Active sync 4.2. The newer ones do NOT work with the X5.

Good luck with the wireless card. The Axim does not play well with many of them. (sometimes works but mostly not) Try drivers from d Link and be sure to remove the old drivers first.

Wireless compact flash card installation on dell axim 5

Go to Wal Mart and buy a 1 gig SD card----- and then buy a AmbiCom 54G wireless CF card. Works perfectly in my X5.

Axim X5 power off when battery is at 70% remaining

Chances are there is a flash update on Dell's support site http:\\ that will take care of this issue. Direct link: Hope that helps! Best regards, torgo
