Freezer stopped working as did the ref.. I cleaned coil and complete unit. If the compressor is bad or anyother part, is it easy to fix, check and replace? it is only 5yrs. old
There is a relay called PTC relay. It is located on the compressor. You need to replace it.
First be sure to unplug frig. Remove the cardboard cover that covers
most backs of the frig units. Remove the plastic cover that is on the
side of compressor. It is held on with a metal clip. Now you should be
able to see the relay pry the relay straight off. note the wiring and
position of relay. Only three prongs on compressor. Go to a parts house
for appliance's and with your make and model number should be able to
get a new one. Sometimes this relay starts a noise like clicking off and on to give you a warning. sometimes they just go out.
Let me know if you need any more help. ken

I have the same basic problem but have checked the relay and find that there is 120VAC between the red and black wires to the compressor. The compressor is hot and the relay kicks in and out like a thermal relay that if too much current is drawn it will deenergize. I did not look further to see if there were additional wires on the back of the compressor. Wires are pretty small going to the relay, but I guess that with this small compressor it will draw probably less than 3 to 4 amps so wire size is probably sufficient. In addition to the relay, any capacitor anywhere that should be checked?----- Thanks, Paul
