Question about Samsung VP-D34i Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Problems with my Samsung Mini DV

I dont get any error messages. While vidoeing, the camera occasionally looses the screen (blank or goes a botchy, blurry mess) still has sound. I can usually recover it by turning on and off, or at worst, remove and refit the battery. Sometimes I can simply close and reopen the LCD. Now these methods are not working all the time. When I play it back, you get exactly what you recorded (Good video mixed with blurry crap and full sound). on occasion the playback has about 10 horizontal grey bars on the LCD. And on one occasion, there was a mix of old footage coming through on the new stuff I just finished recording. I can 'usually' rectify this by switching back to 'CAM' mode and taking a few seconds footage, then switching back. The camera is approx 3 - 3.5 years old (fully imported I think) These issues, I believe are similar to the other person making the inquiry. If it is a fauly CCD, are these rectifyable / repairable. or is the camcorder screwed and I should'nt waiste money on this. Any help appreciated, thanx, Matt...

At first I had the same problem, but now it became even worser, the screen is black, you can see messed up picture at the background, anything doesn't help even removing the battery. I can record sound and the same messed up video. So I cant record picture at all.

Hi Matt, You are correct. The CCD has been a serious issue for Samsung since they have been using the Sony imager in the DV camcorders. Samsung is charging approx. $170.00 to replace the CCD at this time. I would wait to see if any of the class actions against Samsung take hold so you can send the camera to them and have them fix it under warranty extension. I would wait it out for now, it's a good camera and worth getting repaired. Hope this helps you. Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (customelectronics.org)

Lens cover not open and blank screen

the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor...better go to the sony service center for replacing the image sensor..i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is one of the model that sony recall produc and the cover not open error message is a poor contact of the lens cover switch...
