After paper jam, printer won't initialize

I use to have an HP All-In-One Laser Jet printer that, for reasons unknown to me, wouldn't print after clearing a paper jam until I replaced the ink cartridge.

What this light sequence means that the printer has a paper jam.

When a paper jam occurs, the printer stops and the operator panel's Paper Jam light and Continue button lights come on. Press and release Continue twice quickly to display the specific secondary error paper jam light sequence.

How to clear Paper Jam

?· Press Continue button twice quickly to see the secondary error code.

To get the secondary error codes

?· When the Error light (!) and Continue button lights are both on, a secondary error has occurred.

?· When the Paper Jam light (4th light) and Continue button lights are both on, a paper jam secondary error has occurred.

?· Press and release Continue button twice quickly to display the secondary error code light sequence.

Press Continue button to resume printing once all the jammed pages are cleared from the paper path.

We recommend that you clear the entire paper path when a paper jam occurs.

To clear a paper jam:

1 If you are feeding paper from a tray, remove the tray, and then remove any jams.

2 Open the front cover and remove the print cartridge assembly.

NOTE: Do not leave the print cartridge assembly exposed to direct light for an Extended period of time. Extended light exposure can cause print quality problems.

3 Remove any jams in the area behind the print cartridge assembly.

4 Lift the flap at the front of the printer and remove any jams beneath the flap.

5 Open the rear exit and remove any jams.

6 After you have cleared the jams, reinstall the print cartridge assembly, make sure all printer covers and trays are closed, and then press Continue button to resume printing.

NOTE: The printer reprints the pages that caused the paper jam.

Error 5C10 means a paper jam or the printer has encountered an internal error. And error 6A00 is caused due a paper jam in the sheet feed unit or near the print head. You can also reset the printer to resolve this issue. On the printer press and hold the ON/OFF button or unplug the power cord. Wait for 10 seconds, press power button ON/OFF button again. If this doesn't resolve the error code then unplug the printer for 10 minutes. Also, inspect the back panel of the printer for any paper jams. To clear the paper jams---

Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord and USB cable. Remove the jammed paper slowly using the following procedure. Open the rear cover to check if the paper is jammed. Pull out the cassette and check if the paper is jammed inside the cassette area. Stand the printer with the rear side down, holding the document cover. Press the tabs together and pull the green cover toward you. Check if the paper is jammed. (If you were not doing Duplex printing, you do not have to follow this procedure.) Close the green cover and place the printer back to a normal position. Reconnect the power cord and power on the printer. Confirm the Alarm light is off. Load paper back into the ASF or cassette. Press to clear the message and continue printing. If you are printing from application software, follow the instructions displayed on your computer. Hope this helps... We would like to know more about the lights you're referring to. The lights are represented by Error, Jam, Load Paper, Toner Low, Ready and Continue (green button).

Since the printer will print, for us to give the common light sequences, please provide us information which light is orange on the printer.
For further assistance, please call Lexmark Technical Support.

The lights continually flashing indicate a paper jam or the printer being out of ink. Check/clear any paper jam and verify the ink cartidge is set correctly.

The simplest thing would be to try unplugging the printer from the power source. Let it rest for 5 - 10 minutes then plug back in to the power supply and see if that resolves the problem.

If not you are going to need to do a thorugh inspection to verify that all paper remnants have been removed.

The following is for the MP600:

ASF / Paper Output Slot

1. Turn off the printer.
   
   
2. Remove paper from the ASF.
   
   
3. Gently pull the jammed paper out.
   
4. 1. If paper is visible from the ASF, use both hands to pull the paper out slowly.
      
   2. If paper is visible from the paper output slot, use both hands to pull the paper out slowly.

5. If the paper tears and a piece of that remains inside the printer, open the scanning unit (printer cover) and remove the paper from inside the printer.
   
   Note:
   Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer.
   
   
   
6. Turn on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
   (If the jammed paper remains in the printer, the paper may be automatically ejected.)
   
   
7. Load paper back into the ASF.
   
   
8. Press to clear the message and continue printing. If you are printing from an application software, follow the instructions displayed on your computer.

Paper jams inside the printer

1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord and USB cable.

Clearing credit card-sized paper jammed inside the printer
Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. Credit card-sized paper should only be loaded in the ASF and in portrait orientation. 4" x 6" sized paper can be loaded in the ASF or cassette. But must be loaded portrait orientation.
If credit card-sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the ASF and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.

1. Turn off the printer.
   
   
2. Load the same paper type that is jammed inside the printer in portrait orientation.
   
   
   
   
3. Power on the printer.
   The paper stock in the ASF will automatically feed the jammed paper from the printer.
   
   
4. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

If 4" x 6" sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the cassette and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.

1. Turn off the printer.
   
   
2. Open the rear cover.
   
   
3. Fold in four a piece of letter-sized plain paper.
   
   
4. Push in the folded paper until it hits the jammed paper.
   
   
   
   
5. If the jammed paper is visible from inside the printer area, pull it out and proceed to step 7.
   
   
6. If the jammed paper cannot be pulled out, push in the folder paper from the rear so the jammed paper is in between the feed rollers.
   
   
7. Pull out the folded paper and close the rear cover.
   
   
8. Power on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
   The jammed paper should automatically eject.
   
   
9. To resume printing, load the paper in portrait orientation.

Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

• Remove the paper from both paper trays.
• Press the power button once. Wait a moment for the paper jam to clear.
• If printing labels, verify that a label did not become detached while passing through the printer. If the paper jam was not resolved, continue on to the next steps.
• Remove the rear access door.
• Remove the paper jam through the opening at the back of the printer.
• Replace the rear access door.
• Reload the paper into the paper In tray.
• Print the document.

When a paper jam occurs, the printer will stop printing and the Continue (1) and Paper Jam (2) lights on the operator panel will come on. See the illustration below.
When you experience a paper jam, it is recommended that you check and clear the entire paper path. To clear a paper jam, do the following:

1. If you are feeding paper from a paper tray, first remove the tray. Look for and remove any jammed or damaged paper you find.
   
   
   
2. Open the front cover and remove the print cartridge assembly.
   
   IMPORTANT! Do not leave the print cartridge assembly exposed to direct light, especially sunlight, for an extended period of time. Extended exposure to light will damage the green photoconductor roller and cause print quality problems.
   
   
   
3. Remove any paper you find jammed in the area behind the print cartridge assembly.
   
   
   
4. Also lift the flap at the front of the printer and remove any paper you find jammed beneath the flap.
   
   
   
5. Open the rear exit door/cover of the printer and remove any jammed paper you find there.
   
   
   
6. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the print cartridge assembly. Close all the printer covers/doors. Reinstall any paper trays you removed.
   
7. Press the Continue button to resume printing. NOTE: The printer should reprint the page(s) that caused the paper jam.
   
8. If the paper continues to jam, press the Continue button twice quickly while the Continue and Paper Jam lights are on. This will cause the operator panel to display the secondary error paper jam light sequence. The secondary error code will tell you where the printer thinks the problem has arisen. For more information, see the 'Secondary Error Codes' section on page 69 of the User's Guide.
