Perform the following steps to align the ink cartridges:
Disconnect the power cord from the unit, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit.
Print another alignment test page. If the Press Enter to align message is not currently on the front panel display, complete the following steps to print an alignment page:
Press Setup or Menu on the front panel (depending on the model).
Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
Press the right arrow button (>) until Align Print Cartridges is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
To determine if the automatic alignment is functioning correctly, look into the output tray as the alignment page is printing; a blue light should be visible periodically on the page as the cartridges move back and forth. If this light is not visible, the product will not be able to align the cartridges and will require service. Service the product.
If the blue light is visible and the alignment pages are printing correctly, but the alignment pages still fails, there still may be a hardware problem with the unit.
If there are no other printing problems and you wish to continue, use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. The information from last successful alignment will be used.
If the message keeps reappearing or other print quality problems occur, service the product.
Models with a semi-automatic print cartridge alignment
Some HP products have a semi-automatic alignment process. These models do not have an additional sensor and will print two pages for the alignment process instead of one. The alignment page must be placed on the scanner glass or into the automatic document feeder (HP Officejet V series) and scanned.
Disconnect the power cord, wait five seconds, and then plug it in. This reinitializes the product and forces the scanner to calibrate again.
Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
With the product turned on, open the scanner cover and check the bulb assembly. If the scanner bulb is not lit, the product must be serviced.
Verify that the alignment page is placed correctly on the scanner glass or in the ADF (if the product has one). Place the printed side down.
5. Make a copy of the alignment page. The unit will make a copy even if the alignment message is displayed. Compare the copy to the original. If vertical lines appear in the copy, check to see if the scanner assembly requires cleaning. If cleaning the scanner assembly does not correct the problem, service the product.
6. Use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. Operate the HP All-in-One to determine if there are other problems. The unit should be serviced if other error messages or problems occur or if alignment problems occur every time the ink cartridges are changed.
To bypass the ink cartridge alignment:Press and hold the Setup button, and then press Options (or Copy Options ).

To fix the colored lines on a copy page do the below steps
Disconnect the power cord, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit and force the scanner to calibrate again.
Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
With the product turned on, open the scanner cover and check the bulb assembly. If the scanner bulb is not lit, the unit must be serviced.
Verify that the alignment page is placed on the scanner glass or in the automatic document feeder (if equipped) correctly. Place the printed side down.
Make a copy of the alignment page. The unit will make a copy even if the alignment message is displayed. Compare the copy to the original. If vertical lines appear in the copy, check to see if the scanner assembly requires cleaning. If cleaning the scanner assembly does not correct the problem, service the product.
Yes, either the lamp or photo sensors in the scan assembly. You need a torx driver to remove the top and back covers and check that all ribbon cables are plugged in fully, sometimes a poor connection can cause that problem.
The NEC’s work on a reducing time basis, they count the hours that they have been operational and refer to this as the life of the bulb – 1600 hours. When the 1600 hours has been reached the projector shuts itself down into standby mode never to be restarted even after changing the bulb / filters. This is because the unit needs to be reset, which needs to be done as follows (not included in any of the bulb replacement instructions):-
Plug Projector in so it is in standby mode – Orange light lit, Red status light lit (not flashing)
Using the remote control, hold down the power off button for 30-45 seconds
This will reset the status button, removing the red light
Power up the projector and select Menu
Select Projector Options
Select Set-up – a number of tabs will appear called pages
Arrow across the pages (MT850 is Page 5) until an option called “RESET LAMP HOURS” is shown
Move onto this option and press enter on the projector itself, confirm that you want to reset the counter
Projector is now back to life
This works for all NEC projectors, the page number may be different though where the “RESET LAMP HOURS” option resides.
hi Clean the upper part of the scanner glass with soft cotton cloth. Ensure their are no visible marks on the glass.
If
the printer power cable is connected to the surge protector, connect it
directly to the wall jack and then perform power cycle on it.
Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:
1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the connection port. 2. Wait 30 seconds. 3. Plug in the power only. 4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times. 5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.
After performing power cycle, you need to perform semi-full reset.
Press and hold Cancel and the Left Arrow key on the front panel keypad, while plugging in the power cord. Put the printer as stand alone and try copying any normal document by placing it on the scanner glass.
Issue
persists check if the scanner bulb is glowing and also able to move. If
the scanner bulb is either not moving or glowing, the problem is
related with hardware and needs to be serviced.
As long as you have downloaded the software that came with printer and installed the printer with an usb cable, it should be really easy such as just hitting the scan button and it will pull up the pic after scanning.
I got it to scan. I found this by the grace of God. I have the same problem with the print cartridges. But I was attemting to get into my camera. I went to the 'My computer' Icon on Windows XP. Under that part of the file system, I have the "HP PSC 1600 series" icon under the scanners and printers. I double clicked this, and it allowed me to scan an image.
Hi Simoandson,
The scanner failure message usually occures when the scanner bulb is not getting heated properly or the scanner bulb is defective.
We can check with the issue by connecting the printer direcly to wall outlet and then lift the scanner lid and press scan or copy button and check for the scanner bulb is lit and scanner machinisum is moving fine under the scanner bed..
