Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

Replacing Oven Igniter

The broiler works, the burners light, but the oven igniter does not ignite. We will be purchasing the replacement igniter tomorrow and the oven is in pieces. Any ideas how we can access the screws that attach the igniter to the burner? They are located under the igniter, at an angle that renders every wrench in the toolbox unusable. We have attempted to remove the burner, without results, but will continue to pursue this approach if absolutely necessary. On the broiler, the same igniter is attached so that the mounting screws are easily accessible. Any ideas?

PULL OUT THE DRAWER AND THAT WILL ALLOW YOU ACCESS TO THE 1/4" SCREWS IN THE LOWER REAR THAT HOLDS THE BURNER IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE FRONT SINGLE 1/4" SCREW. NEED A FLASHLIGHT FOR THIS. THIS FREES UP THE BURNER SO YOU CAN ACCESS THE IGNITER MOUNT SCREWS.

More than likely, you have a bad igniter. As the igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and longer function properly. Just because they glow, does not mean they are good. If you are experiencing ignition problems, the following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575727-replacing_an_oven_igniter_on_a_gas_range

The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface burners work, but the oven does not, the problem is usually not a gas related issue. If a single igniter is still working (i.e., the broiler still works), its more than likely NOT a control board issue, either.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also offer helpful exploded view diagrams to help you locate and properly identify the parts you need. If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement igniter is WB2X9154.

NOTE: It is common for the BAKE igniter to require replacement more often than the broiler, due to the frequency of use.

If you have any questions please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Oven does not light. Top ignitor glows red bottom

Since BOTH oven manifolds and surface burners are usually fed from the same source, this is probably the result of failed igniter(s) in the oven. This is assuming that your surface burners are working, or course. If you are trying to light the BAKE manifold, the broiler manifold is used on some model to speed up the pre-heat process. So, you may see the broiler attempt to light as well. If you have tried using only the broiler by itself and it still does not light, you may have a weak igniter on that manifold as well. Double check your symptoms.

If this is a GAS range, as these igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and longer function. If you are experiencing ignition problems, the following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to replace one:

Kenmore oven won't light

If the broiler still works and the surface burners light, you more than likely have a bad igniter on the bake manifold. The following link epxlains a little theory about these igniters and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575727-replacing_an_oven_igniter_on_a_gas_range

The broiler and bake manifolds have separate igniters, but share a common regulator and safety valve. So, if the broiler works, you don't have a gas problem. The surface igniters use electrodes to ignite gas which are fed from a spark module. So, some deductive reasoning can easily determine what the likely problem is.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com

The lower oven ignighter does not glow

I had the same problem and swapped the oven igniter with the broiler igniter and the oven now works. This proved the oven igniter itself was the fault, now I have to replace the broiler igniter with a new one(which is much easier to get to).

FYI: An igniter may glow red and still not allow the oven to work. The igniter has to draw a certain amount of electrical current for the main gas valve to open.

Oven will not light but broiler works

More than likely the igniter for the bake manifold has become weak over time and now needs to be replaced. Each burner manifold in the oven has a separate igniter. That's why your broiler still works. Due to the frequency of use, the bake igniter wears out faster and may require replacement more often. The following link explains a little theory on how these igniters work and how to replace one:

Amana broiler problem

Each burner manifold in the oven has its own igniter. If the igniter is defective, the burner assembly will not light. The igniter has to be functioning properly in order for the gas safety valve to open. This is a designed safety feature that prevents free flowing gas from entering the oven cavity without ignition. This reduces the risk of explosions.

There should be a flame spreader metal plate covering the access over the broiler. You will need to access the broiler so you can view the broiler manifold and igniter. Turn the oven setting to broil and make sure the igniter begins to glow. If the igniter fails to glow, replace it. If the igniter does glow, but you still do not have ignition after 90 seconds, the igniter may be weak and still require replacement. The following link explains oven igniter types, their current potential, and how to replace them:

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

Oven bake ignites usually have lifetime 5-7 years. If igniter glows but gas not came in - replace igniter. Same with broil igniter.
