My television turns off by itself. There is no sound or picture. When it goes out it sounds like the cable has gone out but the cable is still on & working. The TV will come back on but when it does it's frizzy like the cable is out or the channel has changed from the Channel 4 it was on to another channel. I have tried changing outlets as well as connecting the tv to another cable outlet to see if that was the problem but the tv does the same thing. We have changed out the cable wires as well as the cable boxes and still the same thing. Is the tv going bad and we just need to replace it?
I should add that when the tv goes off the power is still on it's just the picture & sound that goes out. If I turn the power off it clicks and when I turn it back on it clicks and the power light lights up and stays lit. There is just no picture or sound. I can turn the tv off & on several times and then finally it will come back on. It seems like once it heats up it stays on w/o any problems.I should add that when the tv goes off the power is still on it's just the picture & sound that goes out. I was quoted a price of $265 to have this set fixed. He said there were 2 different problems going on. The Tech said that it was worth fixing since the picture tube was still good. I don't know if I agree since I can buy a new one and they both will carry a 90 day warranty?I was quoted a price of $265 to have this set fixed. He said there were 2 different problems going on. same thing. figure i have about 38,000 hours on TV. I was hoping to make it last til 2009 when I'd get my third HD TV. it's only being used in my master bedroom but the room is big and anything smaller will not work. My set right now is not totally turning off. It starts good but in about five minutes the picture as well as the red LED light will flicker on and off and then we loose the picture. Sometimes it comes back on in a scrambled black and white. I don't think it turns the whole way off?same thing. figure i have about 38,000 hours on TV. Re: Toshiba CF36H50 turn
It sounds like you have a bad tuner or maybe the relay contacts are limiting the amount of current to the needed circuits. if the TV set is over 5 to 6 years old it most likely is not worth investing in a tech to looking at the problem as I seen recently 32 inch RCA sets in Wal-Mart for less the 250.00 bucks. good luck

I hate to say this but, it sounds like the vertical portion of the tv's electronics has failed. Ouch!!! If the TV is more than 5 years old....It's more than likely not worth fixing. Call around tomorrow and see if parts are still available ....good luck to you!!
