Have you tried an update to iTunes8 then install the latest version of software for your iPods. Do a restore on your iPod from iTunes. Try the 5 R's - Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore.

I have had this problem recently myself and would like you to know that
it is possible to fix. The white screen error or otherwise known as
"white screen of death" is caused by the lcd color screen on the ipod
itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not.
Once you replace the color screen it will be as good as new.

it will still work but u just dont have a screen that works mine is the same way if you want a screen u might have to get a new one but if you just want to listen to music turn it on and hit the play butten
You will need to replace the screen. This is a relatively cheap fix.

At this web site you can purchase the new screen and view a step by step guide (with pictures) on replacing every part in the iPod nano you have. :) Let me know if you have any issues with the resolution. Cheers

That means that the inverter board for the LCD has gone out or there is a bad connection internally and it is not getting the signal to display the info. Your best bet is to see how much Apple wants to fix it. If it is too much I would say time for a new one. Fry's Electronics is selling the new 8GB Nano for somewhere between 139 and 159. That is their regular price.
