E100, means that you need to change whole drum unit. Use genuine from canon.

Error E100 is drum error, check the drum unit is fixed properly
Sometimes notch on the drum unit is broken on the left side hence copier is unable to detect drum unit

OK so yes the Drum unit has a flag on the rear left (when holding it as though you were going to install it). If that is missing you will get an E100. The real meaning of an E100 is a laser beam detect error. So if the shutter doesn't open when you install the drum unit then yes you will get this code. if the drum unit has the flag then there is a deeper issue. Could be the laser or the DC controller.

Yes, and to add some other tip, it happenned to me to find out the plastic articulation BELOW the laser unit, broken and out of position! Result: even if the notch on the drum is intact,the movement is not transmited to the Laser shuter.
I just removed the laser out and put adhesive tape to the shutter (permanently activated) and Bingo!

Note: To reset E000, E001, E002, E003, go to service mode 4. select SET, go to "#7 PRINT-ER," in service mode. Then press Execute "#4 PRINTER RESET." Power the unit off/on.

Error message: ROM ERROR, what does this mean?

Workaround :
When the ROM Error message is displayed on the control panel, this will indicate an issue with the Flash DIMM on the Image Processor PCB.
In attempting to resolve the issue, reflash the system software for that specific model. If system software does not resolve the error, replace the DIMM Assembly. When replacing the DIMM, you may be required to flash the system software toit's latest version.
iR 1600/2000 FG6-9978-000, Dimm assembly.
As a temporary work around, power on the iR while holding down the STOP key. This may boot the iR to a ready state and copies can be made.
