My actual model is the WCSE3100Aww, but this seems to be similiar. There is very loud noise that occurs only during the spin cycle. It almost sounds as if the basket and the tub are rubbing. Also, there is a slight burning odor that is evident toward the end of cycle. What might this be? Thanks.
Cooleyd, is the sound like a chunk a chunk a chunk noise. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low windings. the motor overheats and thus the burning smell. This is a common failure on these GE's. They came out with a motor kit with new harness and start cap. Remove the front panel by pushing on the 2 clips just below the top on each side. The panel will pull out. See if yours has the kit. It will have a start capacitor on the right side in front. On the motor harnes there will be a white and white/red wire. If you have a steady 120V during this jogging, you need the motor kit. Now with-out being there Im just trying to point you in the right direction. Other things to check would be the drain pump itself and whether there is something in between the tub and basket...Catriver..post back.

Thanks for the reply Catriver. The noise is more like a loud zipping type noise (if that makes since). It even seems as if during the spin cycle the tub is spinning faster than normal; almost like it is going to take off. I will check your suggestions tonight.
I have a GE Harmony WPGT9350C and have a similar problem. My wash machine starts and periodically throughout the washing it sounds like a loud zipping noise or like the start of a dirt bike. Occasionally I will have a slight burning odor as well, but not always. The noise can be very loud and concerns me quite a bit.
The spin cycle is very very load otherwise its ok and no odour comes from either. can anyone help?
When my washer spins or washes it makes a loud scrapping noise
