Have side by side GE profile TPX24PRYA refrigerator. The icemaker delivered water and crushed ice, but stopped delivering cubes. Figured out that the spring on the ice dispenser activator was broken. Got a GE Genuine Renewal Part WR2X4145 Spring, but am not sure how it is anchored on the side toward the bottom of the ice maker container, i.e. exactly how it is anchored. There are two possiblilities.
SOURCE: ice dispenser will not switch back to cubed from crushed
Had the same problem, dispenser stuck on crushed ice, even when cubed ice is selected. There is a magnetic switch behind the panel where the motor for the ice dispenser is. It gets water in it and freezes so it is not free to go up and down. It is always down for crushed, but for cubed ice, the magnet pulls it up. when it's frozen with ice, all you'll get is crushed. You'll have to defrost it. You can defrost the whole freezer, but better to just remove the ice dispenser and defrost that. Three 1/4'' bolts hold secure it. You'll have to unplug the wires from the back of the freezer to remove the unit. The just let it defrost and dry. You can remove the switch from the panel and dry it out too. I've had to to this several times and am looking for a solution to keeping water out of the thing so it won't freeze again. Has anybody solved that?
SOURCE: Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice
You may not need to replace the solenoid. If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice. Test it manually with your hand, it should be free to move up and down. If not, then it is frozen with ice. Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out. You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again. Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

SOURCE: Water is not dispensed but icemaker is working
It's more common to be frozen in the door.
You can disconnect the line under the
unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser
button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws
If it doesn't come out then disconnect
the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the
water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but
water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If the water comes out then check the reservoir. It's behind the crispers in the fridge.
Testimonial: "As I posted, I'm not sure what the problem/solution was, but its working now. Thanks a lot for pointing me to the crisper!"

Make sure the dispensor door flap is closing completely .
Remove the ice bin , close the door , set the display for cubed and press the dispensor pad . Do you hear a " clunk " sound ? If not , open the door and press on the light switch , and activate the pad again . On the back wall , next to the " forks " , is a square hole with a white plastic square . Does this plastic square raise up ? If not , remove the top freezer door hinge cover and disconnect the plug there ( this removes power to the dispensor ) , you will have to remove the 4 screws holding this panel , and determine if the solenoid is bad , wire came off , or plastic piece is broken . If the plastic piece does lift , then the problem is in the ice bin . Lift the long rod , and see if the flap moves , where the ice comes out . If not , you will have to determine why .
