Question about Samsung SC-D23 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I bought a used Samsung SC-D23, no power supply. Although the power connector looks like it takes a strange rectangular connector, it appears that a standard barrel plug will fit it. However, I am unable to find any reference on the web or in the PDF manual that tells the voltage, current rating, or polarity of the plug. Could someone with one of these look at your power adapter and read these things from it? Thanks, Steve PS Yes, I know I can order a power supply from Samsung but I have loads of power supplies here. And I can't just buy a battery charger, since external power must be connected to use the Firewire port.
You should use the original Samsung supply since it is a switching power supply capable of supplying the needed current to operate the onboard charging circuit. Many customers have tried to go with generic supplies and it opens the inline chemical fuse due to the unit drawing heavy current during battery charging. Hope this helps. But they want $60 for it! If I'm reading their website correctly (www.samsungparts.com), the adapter with square connector is $60. Is part number AD44-00065A? If so, I now know it's 8.4V at 1.5A. As long as my power supply is no more than about 8.4V, and at least 1.5A, it will work, but I still need to know the polarity.
And they charge another $12 for the AC cord, it isn't even included.
My plan is to fit a barrel connector to it, and epoxy onto the barrel connector to make it rectangular so it is less likely to shift and bend the center pin.
I have switching power supplies from 3V to 24V. I am sure I can either find one that is 8.4V, or alter the voltage slightly on a 9V. I know not to use a non-switching supply, as the voltage varies to widely on them. A 9V transformer based adapter may go to 12V without a load, and under 6V under heavy load.
Thanks,
Steve
