If you follow the dip stick tube down to the base of the engine there is a square head bolt that is the drain plug

SOURCE: what kind of oil for a husqvarna riding mower?

Yes Briggs and Stratton recommends sae 30 in most all their engines even overhead valve (OHV)
Kohler uses 10w-30 in most of their overhead valve engines

Briggs has their own bottled oil with their label and additives and can find at lowes
Kohler the same

SOURCE: is there an oil filter on a Briggs/Stratton riding lawn mower. Model#42A700

Yes there is a spin on oil filter. Depending on the date code when the motor was built there are two possibilities. The easiest way is to measure the length of the filter, If the filter is 2 1/4" long the Part Number is 492932.
If the filter is 3 1/4" long, the Part Number is 491056.

SOURCE: can't find location of oil filter on engine, manual shows where it should be but it's not there. Model#

If your model # ends in 707, as in 42A707, it does not have an oil filter. You would see it sticking out of the left side if it had one, as in 42A777. You have an opposed twin,a very good engine, unfortunatly, not made anymore. Most of them did not have an oil filter. Dwain

How to change oil

There is a drain plug located on the lower side of engine somewhere....it varies from model to model. Simply take out drain plug....drain oil in approved container......replace oil filter( if your model has one) with a new one....lubing the oil filter seal before installing....replacing drain plug....and adding the correct amount and type oil for your model engine. Always return used oil to a recycling center...auto part store usually provide this service.

I have a troy bilt mower with a briggs & stratton engine. How do I change the oil?

There should be a drain plug on the underside of the mower deck. Raise that side of deck, remove the plug and drain the oil. Replace the plug and add new oil. Hope this helped.
