LG Ice maker

I have an LG refrigerator with an Ice maker that stopped working. You said the I/M is bad but what is the I/M? How do I know that will fix my problem. I turned off the ice maker and now the wire will move and when I turn it on the arm moves from down position to the up position and the arms that pushes the ice cubes out cycles around. Everything seems to work fine except now the ice tray will not fill with water. when it stopped working the wire would not move. I thought it had just frozen so I thought turning it off and letting it thaw out would fix it but now it does not fill with water. When it stopped working there was water in the tray but it would not eject the ice. Now it seems to have thawed and work fine but does not fill with water. What do I need to replace? Can you help? There is a design problem with the icemaker that causes the icemaker heater to fail, causing the icemaker heater fan to fill with ice and burn out. In order to fix it they have to replace the heater, the board and the fan. It will then burn out again in six months to a year due to the irreparable design flaw.

I am considering instituting a class action to force LGE to refund the purchase price of these refrigerators. Anyone interested can email me at

The ice level arm is frozen in place and won't move. Thawing it out with a hairdryer allows the arm to move again, but it quickly re-freezes again.

My service tech has identified my problem as a broken water pump.

This unit requires a double-valve water pump (one valve for water, the other for the ice-maker), He has tried to explain this to LG tech support, but the have sent him the wrong part (a single valve... which cannot be installed) THREE times!... maybe 4, at least three.

When I tried to contact LG directly, I got the run around for 3 hours... each ending with a suggestion to call Simone, a supervisor with the Executive Services department. She was unhelpful, combative and rude.

I seem to be at a dead end... My tech says that when he calls the parts department, the tech on the other line argues with him about what part he needs... while the tech maintains that the part they continue to send doesn't fit and wouldn't work correctly if it did.

Good luck to you if you have this issue.

I will post the correct part number if I get it

The INCORRECT part you will receive is part number: 5221JA2011J

I got the same problem where the plate is cold and the water does not fill - saw this comment from other posting and help. Basically, the ice maker was stalled! Make sure you can see the green light is on, which means you have power. if its lit, press and hold the cube size button until i/m starts to cycle. If i/m runs, but does not fill then your water valve is bad. If i/m will not start then your i/m is at fault.

Worked for me. Last night I went to get ice and the IM ran out of ice. I checked the bucket and found a big chunk of cubes that were actually stacked up and touching the IM. I removed the chunk and this morning, there was no ice. The water from the door was working, but the ice tray was not filling. So i turned off the unit for a few hours, then back on. An hour later no Ice. Held the cube size button for one complete cycle and let go. Nothing. Held it down again, and this time the silver arm cycled with the eject arm, popped up, then down and the tray filled with water. Good advice, thanks. - This was for ice maker AEQ36756901 on fridge LFX25971ST

Sounds like you may need to replace the ice maker assembly - Part number AEQ36756901 - $100 @ Sears. I was able to get mine working by removing the ice-maker, opening the circuit board cover and letting everything dry completely (7 hours and make sure everything is totally dry) Mine has been working OK since.

Water dispenser and ice maker stopped

If they both stopped working at the same time you probably have a blocked water line or bad water valve.

Refrigerator stopped making ice

Did you get an error message? We have turned our ice maker off, left it off for about a week, then turned it back on. Some part inside freezes and, so far, this method has worked.
