Hello,
After my seven year old Sony rear projection KP61V85 warms up (about two or three minutes after turning it on) the color begins to flicker on and off. The black and white portion of the picture is clear, but the color seems to create ''bands'' horizonally across the screen (each band about 10% of the screen, alternating black/white and color) and seems to flicker in cycles.
When I turn the TV off for a couple of minutes and then turn it back on it works fine for a couple of minutes then begins to flicker again. The longer I allow it to cool down, the longer it takes to begin malfunctioning. I have searched all of the ''Forums'' and cannot find the same problem or a solution. What is your guess???
I went to the Sony support page for your model.(link below)http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KP61V85&LOC=3
They are undergoing maintenance right now, so I couldn't find any answers for you. I would check back with the website to see if they can help you. If the Standby timer light flashes, you may need to have the TV repaired. There is a "Hot Topics" section for "How to troubleshoot television picture issues" that will probably be very helpful to you.

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.
Yes, I used to work in Best Buy and one of the key things about rear projection TVs and the reason they push those service plans on you is that the tubes/colors need to be calibrated each year. You can do this yourself by checking out the following website:

I'm afraid I don't have good news. This is known as the "Flicker Issue." As a Sony authorized servicer, the shop I worked for was directed to replace all three of the CRT's in the limited number of sets that experienced this issue. The cost per tube is typically around $200. If you decide to take this on, it is best to replace one CRT at a time, power up the set and do the yoke adjustments and electrical alignments to get the new color to line up with the existing ones.
Needs convergence amps replaced. Sometimes resistors burn and need to be replaced. This repair requires soldering/desoldering equip. and a trained eye, but usually can be done for 175.00-325.00 at a reputable service center. Good luck, Russmann.
HELLO. it sound's like you have a cold solder problem.!!! what that mean's is that when the set get hot .!!! it lose's it's contack.!!! you might try going over the chassis .!!! soldering the conteck's.!!! with a low watt. solder gun.!!! not over 40 watt's.!!! and use 40/60 rosin core solder.!!! hope this help's you .!!! "GOOD LUCK"
Sorry to say, it sounds like a bad picture tube, But could be also the capacitor that filters the screen voltage on the crt drivers. In all my years though, your complaint has been the picture tube. Good Luck.
