No sound, drivers can't be found

Friend was over helping with a problem. He disabled sound in BIOs, then after Enabled it. After Enabling sound again it found new hardware. No drivers can be found. I've used the Gateway Recover to Factory Restore, problems still there. Tried using the Gateway Recovery Center to install the Realtek Sound drivers again. Still have no sound. Volume icon bottom right taskbar has red X. Device Manager now has Other device - Multimedia Audio Controller. There is no longer a Realtek HD Audio ...... under Sound, video and game controllers. Things already tried.... + factory restore + installing drivers with windows found new hardware wizard (can't be found) + gateway recovery center -> Installed Realtek HD drivers + installed Audio drivers from Gateway site + installed drivers from realtek + Used Driver Reviver for drivers + uninstalled from device manager & control panel .. restart reinstall ....:: Thank You for any help ::....

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers
if you dont have motherboard diskhttp://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html
on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for
    IE: motherboard name sound drivers
be precise you might have to try a few times to get it right

SOURCE: installed new hard drive (old one crashed) no sound now

You need another sound system. If it's xp it is probably ac 97. However; go to windows update, make sure you have all of the updates. Then go to the control panel, device manager and look for a yellow question mark or a yellow exclamation mark, if there, right click and click update driver or click uninstall from the system, restart the computer and windows will look for the drivers, just follow on screen directions.

NO Bluetooth Devices

Have you used BT on this laptop before ?
BT can be disabled/enabled in the BIOS, Windows, and often, depending on the Manufacturer, via the keyboard. ALL must be 'enabled' for it to work.

WLAN In windows 7

This icon means that windows has found some sort of error with the device. Try disabling and re-enabling the device on the right click menu. Once re-enabled right click and go to drivers tab. Click update driver and search automatically for updated software. You could also try uninstalling the driver and downloading and installing a new version from the manufacturers website.

I'm trying to help a friend install

After "Fast Boot" has been enabled, you cannot access the BIOS setup during power on . The machine will bypass "Press F2 to access Setup Utiltiy and F12 for Boot Menu" prompt.
This is a bigger issue if the hard drive crashes and access to Windows is not possible OR

Fast Boot can be enabled or disabled in the BIOS setup, or in HW Setup under Windows.
If you have Fast Boot enabled and you want to get into the BIOS setup. Hold down the F2 key, then power on. That will get you into the BIOS setup Utility.
You can disable the Fast Boot Option here. You will need to disable Fast Boot if you want to use the F12 / Boot menu.

I have a Compaq Presario S5140WM with no sound, and apparently the correct software/drivers are installed. I don't know what it could be... Help?

Quick answer since i assume you have tried most things, i would suggest you go into the bios which is the startup of the computer NOT the starting windows. The delete key or some other combination will get you into it, Just check on the net for it. How do i get into the bios for........

Once you are in there what you will be looking for is the section that says onboard sound or else the AC97 sound. Check to make sure that is enabled, if it says disabled change it to enabled this will get you your onboard sound card to work.

WARNING AND PAY ATTENTION unless you know what you are doing in the bios touch nothing else. You start playing in there without knowing what your doing and it could be months before you get your computer up and running again. Not to scare you to badly.

Hope this helps

No audio driver

hi

1st is there built-in sound or a sound card ?

if built-in sound, check to see that it is enabled in the BIOS settings, can be found at the start of start up,
usually F2, F8, F10, F12 or Del.

if it is a sound card that u are using,in Bios settings disable onboard sound.

check Device Manager and see is the computer seeing it,

you might have to go to the maker of the motherboard (if using built-in sound) or the sound card maker and get the driver for the sound card.

hope this helps.

Can't find updated ACPI Bios for toshiba satellite m45 s331. If found how to install? Getting blue screen Bios in this system not fully ACPI compliant.

I already explained in the other post ..The action required is either install a 3rd party raid and ahci driver ..and if you do not have the possibility ..just c\go to bios and enable the hard disk bus to work as ide..(disable ahci mode) I'm not sure how it will appear ..but you have to look under the bus mode..where the hard disk is seen ..It will appear as ahci enabled..and need to be disabled or ..will have raid mode enabled..and need to set it as native ..or ide compatible

I have toshiba satellite L505-S5990 model.i have installed windows xp by changing the settings in Bios that is sata hard disk enabled as compatable mode from AHCI.if i change to AHCI i can't install...

If you would like to make use of the SATA controller's AHCI features, you should enable this BIOS feature. But please note that enabling this feature requires you to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.
If you do not intend to use the AHCI features, it's recommended that you disable this BIOS feature. This allows you to use the native Windows XP driver. You won't need to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.
