Vertical bars both sides of screen visable with white background

Sony model# kp-53hs10
when I watch hockey or anything with a white or light coloured background I notice very faint black bars on the left and right side of the screen which are only noticable on white or light backgrounds. Does not matter if I am watching satellite tv or dvd video. This is a minor issue but drives me crazy when watching hockey.
tv only has 4:3 aspect ratio.
any settings I can change to fix this?
any help would be appreciated.

    no they stay the same left to right and up and down

    they are very faint but noticeable on light backgrounds

Do thy get lighter going from left to right? prob bad scan filter in hv. need tech unless your very handy.

    sounds like scan radiation from sweep circuit. if so will prob get worse with age usally caused by electrolytic capacitorss going bad. again need tech

I have a Sony projection TV KP-53HS10. From one
It is most likely the convergence board. Rear projection TVs use three lights to display the image. The image is aligned via the convergence circuit. After many many hours of use the capacitors and resistors on the board lose their tolerances. It is very expensive to repair if you take into account the price for a new TV and the quality of the image you will be getting if you do have it repaired.

this happened to us about 3 months ago. We were in the middle of a movie and the screen went black, red light flashing. we went online and the lamp bulb is blown. you can order a new on online, cheaper than Sony will charge you.

you will need to replace the convergence IC's and test resistors on them for bad values , if you want to do the repair yourself
otherwise to have a tech come out and do the repair will be about $300

Screen goes black and resets during HD shows
I just posted this to another Sony owner:

Another point; HD Ready does not mean that it is HD compatible without the addition of an optional part.
The title only implies that it can be adapted to HD reception.
If you did not purchase it with the set, check your user guide to see what you need to make it whole.
You may have to seek this add-on on eBay since it is not guaranteed that Sony will still offer it.

I have a sony rear projection kp-53hs10
I took the back off,took a compressor with high pressure of 80-120 psi,blew out entire componants therowly,cleaned off the lenses,put it back togather,and it stopped!I had a dust problem.Hope it works for you.
