Toshiba se-r0094 cd player When powered on via remote, or the open/load button.....says "HELLO","PROTECTED","GOOD-BYE" and shuts off again... It will not load a CD nor do anything except as stated above.
How to proceed????
I had to call Toshiba direct. Their warranty had to cover it. They sent a p/u tag for UPS to come get it and they had it sent to some place that could fix it. They did, sent it back and I have never had the problem again. Its a pain, but they can fix it.

Hi friend. Try this: Press the power button on the Toshiba DVD player remote. Press the
"Open/Close" button to eject the disc tray. Remove any disc that might
be on the tray before proceeding. Press the following keys on the remote in this order: 2,4,0,3,9,6,0. Press the "9" key on the remote. Press the "Open/Close" button to close the disc tray. Press the power button to turn the Toshiba DVD player on.
Toshiba allow cheapo makes to use their brand name sometimes.
So if the player is not a genuine Toshiba then there is likely to be a remote hack on the net some where.
If it is a genuine Toshiba then there wont be a remote hack and you will need somebody like DVD Chips to send you a £20 remote that will hack it.
However - many Toshiba machines will not play NTSC discs at all when first set up.
Check out the Video setup menu and you will see a PAL/NTSC/AUTO option.
Tosh's I've seen are preset to PAL but unlike other players the Tosh will spit out any NTSC discs you try to play- set it to AUTO
Check that setting first just in case that is the only thing stopping it
Here's a Tosh hack to try
1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray 2. Press the 2 button on your remote control 3. Press the 4 button on your remote control 4. Press the 0 button on your remote control 5. Press the 3 button on your remote control 6. Press the 9 button on your remote control 7. Press the 6 button on your remote control 8. Press the 0 button on your remote control 9. Press the Enter button on your remote control to change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback 10. Press the Open button on your remote control to close the drive tray 11. Power off the DVD player 12. Power on the DVD player
If the hack does work make sure the PAL/NTSC setting is on AUTO because R1 disc might still not play
.Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.
2.Turn on your television set, DVD player or other device that you want to control with the Toshiba remote.
3.Find the "Recall" or "Setup" button on
the Toshiba remote control. After you find it, press and hold down that
button until the lights on the remote control turn on and remain lit.
4.Point the Toshiba remote at the device you turned on in Step 2 and press the button on the remote for that device. 5.Begin pressing the "Power" button on the
Toshiba remote. Continue doing this until you have turned the device off
using the Toshiba remote. Once it shuts off, press "Enter" on the
Toshiba remote. The remote will then be programmed OK.
The SE-R0094 is the original remote for the SD-KT50. So should work with it unless it's faulty.
You can get the service manual for the SD-KT50, that might give you clues as to why it doesn't work. It's free the manual, just type the model number into Google.

i had the same problem on a marantz cd-63 which is virtually identical and it turned out to be a faulty button on the control PCB. i replaced it with one out of a scrap PCB and all worked as it should.
