Tascam pocketstudio 5

One day my pocket studion just stopped doing every. I turn it on. The card loads. The LCD indicats that it's ready to record a song. I can see the track peak levels responding to my input, but i hear no sound/phones and out put. Also, nothing records. I don't get it. I have been using tascams forever. I have never experience any problems.

SD Card Full

When you install a larger SD card it will be a fresh empty memory card. Your existing 8Gb SD card will still have the the 5 hour gig data on it.
You can insert the 8Gb SD memory card into an USB memory card reader and plug this into the USB port on your computer. The computer will see this SD memory card and adapter as an external storage device. You can then open the audio folder on theis SD memory card and copy this file to your computer.

Err Pttrn File issue

Vista shouldn't prevent you from transfering data to a TASCAM Portastudio. The instruction manual shows how to connect the Portastudio to a computer using a cable. The instruction manual can be found on the internet and is called ps5_ref.pdf

If you have a CF card reader you can put the card in that and it will show up in vista as removeable disk. You then use Explorer (windows file Explorer, not the browser Explorer - who knows what fool at Microsoft gave the same name to two different programs) as normal to move the files FXPATCH.PKT, PATTERN.001, and SYSINFO.PKT onto the CF card. You use the same method to transfer your recordings and MP3 files from the Portastudio to the computer if you want to. Just remember to stick to the 8.3 naming convention - that's up to eight letters, a full stop, and three letter extension such as .MP3

Pocketstudio 5

A CF card is a compact flash memory card. It's rectangular and has two rows of holes along one side which fit over the connector pins when you slide the card into its socket. Compact flash cards can be bought from electronics or photographic shops, and some department stores. They are not expensive but these days they are usually 1Gb and up. The TASCAM Pocketstudio 5 can only format up to 128Mb so most of a modern card is not used but the card will still work.

Hello tasbones and razzledog !I expect the following will help you solving the problems with the pattern file of pocketstudio5 (TASCAM):You need the original CD-ROM which includes the pattern file with many different drums and sound stuff. You have to put these data on a formatted cf-card (everytime again if you will use a new card) !This info comes from a german musician who had the same problem 5 years ago.Try the following Link of TASCAM where you can download the manual, an update and the PATTERN FILE !www.tascam.de   --> "Support" --> "download" --> "nicht mehr hergestellte Produkte" --> "pocketstudio5"If this will not work, give me a sign - I will try to send the data to you via mail.freewood/Berlin, Germany

http://www.tascam.com/Products/PocketStudio5.html There is a menu on the left with all the documentation, as well as downloads of their software updates. This product is discontinued, so no further support will be available from the manufacturer.
