I have just purchased a hpc7280 and i am trying to connect it by wireless.it is asking me for a wep key,were can i get this from

There is an option called WEP (Wired Encryption Privacy)
You have to loginto the wireless router and enable the WEP authentication.
It will ask you to type in a key and again reenter the same key.
Please do remember the WEP key as next time you try to connect to wireless your laptop will ask for the WEP key. enter in the same key and you will be able to go to internet.

Those who wants to use your wireless need to enter the same key. If you dont want someone to access your wireless then you dont provide him the key.

If you are trying to setup a Router for the first time, you can type your own Key as the WEP Key (You will need this key when you connect to this Wireless Network). The WEP Keys turns the Network to Security Enabled Network. If you're trying to connect to a Wireless Router that has already been setup, you will need to contact the Network Administrator/Owner for the WEP Key.

The wireless networks are made secure by using the wep key.
The wep key was set in the wireless router.If you like to use the wireless networks you have to get the wep key from the person who administer wireless router.
Once you got the key you can connect it to the internet .

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks. WEP keys allow a group of devices on a local network (such as a home network) to exchange encoded messages with each other while hiding the contents of the messages from easy viewing by outsiders.

Search your ISP (Internet Service Provider) into the list of Available Wireless networks and connect it.If it still asks for the key then you need to call up the ISP for the key. Because they provide you wih the key whe you purchase internet connection from them.

The security type on the router is WEP.
In this case you will need to use the key 1. that will be the network key for your wireless network.
Check just next to the wireless security tab , you will see wireless MAC filter. It must be disabled. If it is Enabled then disable it and save the settings.
When you try to connect using the WEP key 1 , do you get any error message ?
If you get any error then try $ sign and wep key1.

First make sure your modem is wireless, if it is not, you need to purchase a wireless router that connects to your modem. If that is all in place and you still have no connection, you may have to unplug modem and or wireless router for 30 second then replug back in, wait a few minutes, then try to get on line, if that does not work, go to the desktop, go to start, then to run command, punch in cmd, then enter, a black screen should appear, type in ping then a space then your ip address, like mine is 169.254.2.63 if you don't know it call who you have for internet service, ask them for it, that said press enter, you should receive a message saying 4 packets sent 4 packets received 0 loss, this now means your connection is good, and you should be able to go online, also within windows is a network troubleshooter, you can go there: start:control panel: network settings.also one other big reason it could be also is that your modem is secure, and has a wep key, you need that to make a connection, the wep key is printed under your modem, write it down. Then go to internet explorer like you are going online, now look on the task bar all the way to the right, right click the little computer scrren go to open network connections, strat a new connection, follow the prompts, and when asked put your wep key in.

Go to settings on your touch and click wifi
make sure the nifi switch is on and the ask to join network switch is on.
see if it recognizes your wireless network and join the network.
it will ask you for the wep key for your network.
you will find that on the router label.
enter the wep key and you should have access.

Okay, first you will need to access your router (usually 192.168.0.1 or something like that) you will be asked for a user name and password. (admin password respectively if you never set these up previously)

From there you would click on Wireless Settings and scroll down to WEP Key. Whatever is typed in Key 1 is your WEP key. Write that down. Plug in those numbers for your printer and you should be go to go.

If it was not setup with a WEP key then try "admin" that is the password for Linksys when not set up. The purpose of the WEP key is to install a password to type in before anyone can use your network. So if "admin" does not work then you have to ask the person who set up the Wireless Network what the WEP key is.
