Getting system to recognize Hitachi CinemaStar P7K500

The OS, Win 7 Pro, is located on another IDE drive. Attaching the Hitachi CinemaStar to the MoBo gaves the MoBo fitsand initially would not boot to the OS. I tried upgrading and finally completed a fresh install of Win 7 after many times to get the system to boot into Win7. Of course the OS is very unstable. It took five attempts to install the OS before it would boot. These drives were intended to be installed in DVRs. How do I get the system to recognize the drive in order to format it and make it a part of the computer? I have a hard drive feature tool but it is not one for the CinemaStar. The MoBo is an Asus M4A79XTD VIO. Since I disconnected the Hitachi drive, I still encounter many crashes of programs and frequent blue screens at sign in. Before I wipe the IDE drive out and do a fresh install, I want to get the Hitachi CinemaStar Sata drive functioning. I retired several years ago from the computer industry and actually have a supply of fifteen of these drives. I need to learn how to get them to function with the MoBO. I also have several WD5000AAJS WD Caviar SE drives which are also SATA drives made for DVRs. I get the same results from these drives also. Any help would be appreciated!

If you have OC that motherboard, roll it back. The drives that you are using are dinosaurs compared to the motherboard. Legacy issues exist.

Install hitachi p7k500 full speed

Your motherboard MUST have a SATA 3.0 port. It is usually blue or look closely on the motherboard to see where the 3.0 port is located. If your motherboard doesn't have a 3.0 port your hard drive won't be any faster than a normal hard drive.

Accessing the bios, read this Link

As for your installations, do you meant that you want a "Dual boot on your system" ie 2 Operating Systems on one PC? Win 7 & Win XP on the PC?

If you wish to know more on "Dual Booting" for your PC read, LINK1, LINK2

Before getting started, make sure your PC hardware must be Win 7 compatible? This type of installation & usage is not meant for the non savvy users, because "bugs" errors! usage after installation.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

These are quite an old hard drive and they are probably pass there due date, unfortunately the only way is to replace the faulty drive, I have had these problems and after changing to the later SATA versions I have had no problems since.

You can still buy these type of hard drives but they are getting expensive now as the newer versions are the normal fitted type and the cost for the same size can be half the price. Once they become faulty they really just need to be thrown away.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Installing Hitachi P7K500 Sata Hard Drive

Windows XP does not come out to support SATA hard drive, because inside do not inclued the SATA driver, that why u cannot see the harddisk during the setup. What u can do is try to install the SATA supported OS like Windows Vista or Windows 7, or maybe can "forcely" put in the SATA driver in ur Windows XP setup CD.
