Re: Shuts off after a second....
Sounds like a lens error. Call the repairs center at 800-706-2534 and then keep choosing option 1. Tell them what's going on and that you would like to send it in for repairs. If they ask just lie and tell them you already talked to tech support. LOL

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them. And here's a 16 minute video summary of the info shown in the link. But note that the article link above goes into more detail than this video: You-Tube video "AkEfnF6zVxc" placeholder (do not delete)
My camera is stuck on the screen that says "lens error" and then has four different numbers in a row. The camera lens is fully extended and will not shut off...any suggestions of what the problem could be?

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
Everytime I try to turn it on, the lens comes out for about a second,
the camera beeps 3 times, the lens retracts and the camera shuts off.
The battery is completely charged and the camera is only 4 months old.
sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
