Question about BYTECC 3.5" Aluminum USB 2.0 and Firewire External Hard Drive Enclosure (USBHD740U2F) Drive Case

1 Answer

Problem with external enclosure ( No power)

I recently bought a Bytecc ME-835U2 aluminum enclosure to put my hard drive in. The guy at the store put my hard drive in the enclosure but when I got it home and plugged it in there was no power. I was wondering why there was no power. Do you have any idea why I would'nt be able to turn it on? I made sure that the power cord was plugged in right and tried different power outlets, but there was still no power.

Perhaps the gentleman at the store did not connect the power from the case to the drive itself.

Do i need to buy an ide to ubs adapter

Better to buy a new hard drive. IDE drives nowadays are mostly found on surviving old pc's. They are slow and usually of low capacity. I feel that any money spent would be better directed at replacing the hard drive.

How to open case for BYTECC Slim Mobile Drive 2.5" SATA 6G USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

you obviously want to scrap it for magnet or aluminum, so bashit with hammer and split with chisel, etc.

My external hdd from bytec is not recognized by my computer. What shall I do?

Try to use direct connection to your computer. Using IDE cable.
If your comp can detect, means your external casing problem.
If not detect, your hard disk problem

IDE hard drive in Bytecc ME-535U2 enclosure not recognized by OS

There is a couple of things that could be going on. The first thing to check is that the drive did not get bumped off its drive letter by another device. If that is the case you just the to assign it a new one. The link below will help you do this.

The other issue is the drive may have gotten disconnected improperly. I had the same problem with one of my drive on my XP system as well. It partly has something to do with the USB controller to my understanding. Alot of times if you plug it into another computer it will detect it and ask to run a scan to repair the drive. After this you should be able to access the drive on your XP system again. Note I have the best resolutes when I plugged the drive into my Vista system. So I would recommend trying to plug it into a Windows Vista or 7 computer to attempt the repair.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

Drive will not show up on 'my computer'

Ok, this might just fix your problem. The thing is, if you have more than one drive attatched to your computer, the drive letters of the drives may overlap, causing some drives not to show in My computer.

Just follow these steps and you might be able to fix the problem.

Go to:
Control panel
Administrative tools
Computer Management
Disc Management
Now you should be able to see your drive in the schematic shown below.

Right click on the drive and choose to change drive letter or paths. If there is no drive letter assigned to your external, assign one, if there already is a drive letter assigned to the drive, change it.

Hope this can help you.

Kind regards

I don't think BYTECC sells complete external hard drives. But they do sell the enclosures. People buy the enclosures and install a hard drive in them and, now you have a working external hard drive. I have don't this before, but I have never used BYTECC before. You can download the drivers for there enclosures at there website:

They have several different versions, Just pick the correct one, hopefully the enclosure has some markings or a sticker identifying the model.

How do i reboot???!!!!

Hold down the power button, Its a universal force shut down. The power up again.
