JVC Error Code 02 Safeguard Mode

I have a GR-SXM920 that is out of warranty. The camcorder has a tape in it. Every time you turn it on, the camera will display an E02 error code--unit in safeguard mode. The camera would not eject the tape, nor play or record. I removed the door housing and confirmed there is a tape in there. Then removed both batteries for an hour. Unit still does not reset. It seems it is some kind of dead EJECT motor mechanism. Just guessing...what are my options, I got a quote from JVC at $250 just to look at it! Thanks!

Brendon, The supply side tape guide can jump out of its track and cause the mechanism to lock up. The load motor is trying to load the tape but cannot, so the load motor driver "times out" and displays the E02 error you're seeing. If you can get to it, try reseating the guide into its track, be careful not to scratch or touch the drum assy located right near the guide track. Good Luck, I hope you can resolve the problem. me know if it does!! Yahoo, six months of it sitting there and finaly
got it back! if this works, send me a quarter ;)

I'm getting an E04 ( error) when I try to record or play

Here is some information regarding the E04 error message from http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/:

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

This doesn't seem uncommon, and indicates a bad tape is loaded, or unfortunately, that the camcorder requires servicing.

Gr-dvl-520u trying to record or playback tape it goes into safeguard mode within 5 seconds. alternatly pressing play and still every 3 seconds advanced the playback without it going into safeguard mod

According to http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/,

If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.

I am recieving error E04 "safeguard mode"

An excerpt from http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/:

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove

According to this, E04 denotes a problem with the recording media or the mechanical bits that deal with the tape. Hopefully trying another tape helps.

Downloading Video to my Computer from a JVC GR-SXM920

You need a video capture card that supports analog inputs. Connect the video and audio out jacks from the camera to the computer. You will need some sort of software also. The Movie Maker software that comes with Windows XP would work.
The little cord that came with the camera will not transfer the video.
