We have not used the camcorder in a couple of months. When we tried to use it now, though, the viewfinder shows a really dark red image. Also, the camera is stuck in the zoomed-in position. When I tried to zoom out, the camerea responds really slowly and, as soon I let go, it zooms back in all the way, automatically. The batteryu is fully charged and there is a fresh tape in there. By the way, I did record a little like this and the playbacj on the TV was also dark red and blurry.
You may have more than one problem by your description. The dark, red picture could be the result of a defective CCD (element that makes the picture) or an iris assembly that is not working properly. If the camera is trying to zoom in one direction or the other, there may be bad connections, corossion damage or a failed operation assembly. I charge no estimate fees, parts at cost, with a flat labor rate of $125.00. Contact me if I can be of further assistance to you.

O heck my camera too went like this, it turned out to be the lamp in the camera that lights up both camera screens, everything looked really dark with out that like, and wow not cheap mend for me, as they charge a bit for the bulb about £4 in UK, but the man who does the job must be paid around £60 per hour, and that hurt, now do you need a box of hankies as I still got couple left.
sounds like the LCD screen viewfinder may have been twisted or accidentally catched or got hooked or snagged on on something at one stage and pulled something, if the screen went yellow it means the three wires going to it are possibly broken or the small white clip was slowly coming undone inside the Viewfinder for the red and green to no longer work to complete the image also indicates why the buttons on the viewfinder are not responding, try twisting the viewfinder very lightly whilst on, but most likely the small white clip holding the wires has come off at the elbow inside the camera
