Sharp R-930 not heating up to temperature

In convection mode, things have been taking longer to cook than they should.  I recently bought an oven thermometer and placed it in the oven.  The temperature is significantly lower--150 to 200 degrees, than what I have set the oven at.  What to do?

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2009

the last two times I used convection, the temp was about 50-75 degrees to low.

See if inside -side fan is turning, that blows in the hot air from element. You should orange glow if the element is working. This may narrow down the problem.

Thank you for your answer and the manual. Unfortunately the store you mentioned doesn't seem to exist anymore.

It may be the thermistor, heating element, etc.

You will need the

How do I heat frozen meat pies in my Sharp convection grill microwave appliance?

Hello, Derek -

Is the Sharp Convection Grill Microwave either model R-820JS or R-820BC? If so . . .

The cooking directions begin on Page 24 of the Operation Manual.

If you do not have the manual, you can find it as a PDF document (Adobe Reader software needed - free) to download for free here:
http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/sharp/r820js_r820bc_1.html

The cooking instructions start on Image 27 of the PDF document and run through Image 30 (Page 26.)

I would choose the convection cooking temperature for either Frozen Convenience Foods or Pies, Frozen Prepared.

Best wishes.

Convection oven shuts off after a minute when trying to bake. Does this during Compubake also.. Does not preheat

Possibly a bad oven temp sensor. If the uinit doesnt read a temperature it will shut down to prevent a fire or over heating. The temp sensor is a thermister A temperature variable resistor that changes value as the temp changes. so If the main board doesnt get a response within a vertain resistance range it shuts things down. Sometimes since those parts are in the actual cooking area and subject to the heat and steam from cooking they can rust and break, or just get old and break. Or slam the door and break, you get the idea!!

My Sharp microwave convection oven (R-967M / R96STM) cuts out during convection pre-heating and cooking, It appears it stops heating after 1 min. If the START button is pressed again the oven starts...

Also the fact it is a convection oven could mean the oven temperature sensor is not picking up the oven temp. it is not telling the machine it is there by the board seeing its resistance, the unit will shut off as a safety feature. The oven sees temperature by reading the value of a temperature dependent resistor. As the temperature changes so does the value of the component ( oven temp sensor) that way the unit determines the temperature inside the unit. Sometimes those sensors will break since they are in the area with the heat and moisture, they get old and break.

Sparp R 930 not heating, turntable not turning

I just repaired mine with the same symptoms. I found that the bottom microswitch on the door (there are 3 switches) was faulty. It started as open, when the door closed, the switch closed (good), but when the door was fully closed the switch was open again. I went to Electronic City with the switch in hand, they found me a duplicate that cost me $2.50. BTW - you must take out the door switch assembly, 3 screws plus wires, in order to work on the switch. Also, put the assembly back in so that the door latches close/open the switches correctly. -jk

Sharp 1870 just quit cooking and no turntable

The fact that the microwave and convection both do not heat indicated that the oven is in demo mode, check the user manual, otherwise it will possibly be a relay not triggering, may need a pcb replacement, check Demo mode 1st....Phil

I recently bought a microwave/convection oven. Model #JES1290SK 02. I understood that cooking time would be lessened for most recipes when using the convection oven, but it takes longer every time....
