Shelly, Did you reset printer after cleaning absorber.
Press and hold the "Power" button and reconnect the power cord. When the printer comes on, release the button. Wait five seconds and push the "Power" button again. This resets the printer's internal memory and overrides the "ink absorber full" error code.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Hi if your ink absorber is full you will probably have to take it to a canon dealer for a replacement absorber but we live in a throw away society now it would probably be cheaper to get a new printer sorry to say
Hope you find this information helpful.
The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print Head Cleaning, for example.
Eight flashes indicates that the ink absorber is nearly full.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing.
Before the ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative. (You will need to replace a particular part of the printer.
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be performed until the ink absorber is replaced

When the ink absorber gets full you need to take the printer to the shop. The printer has to be completely taken apart to replace the absorber which covers the whole bottom of the machine. After that you need to get to the diagnostic mode which only Canon techs can do, and reset the absorber counts. In my shop the repair runs around $80.00
