My flash was working perfectly two days ago. Last photo was taken of kids in a bathtub but flash to my konwledge did not get wet. Camera was taken outside in cold weather left in car for the day it was about 40 degrees outside, I attempted to use camera with flash today and no response from flash, replaced batteries x3 still no response. Can press on screen and I get some of the words but then they fade???? Any thoughts or ideas??????????????????????
You can try cleaning the terminals in the battery compartment with a pencil eraser (a good idea in any case). Otherwise, I suspect hidden damage or fault. If not an expensive unit, replace it.

Gently tap and see whether the picture becomes good, May be your camera has some loose connections somewhere and only a good technician can attend to this.
I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.
The flash has been working fine until last night when I tried to take a picture and the flash was set to auto. When I press the button the little red light beside the flash sign lights up, but the camera does not take the photo. When I set it to flash mode, it still won't take a photo. When I turn off the flash, then it does. What could be the problem? Is it in the settings?
Upon startup lens emerges but when screen appears it is white whereas it normally displays whatever the lens sees. When the shutter button is pressed the camera will focus and take a white picture which can be deleted. The camera does not flash although flash is set to automatic and photo taken in a dark room.Camera flashes (weakly) with flash set to manual on.Lens is unobstructed and appears to be perfectly normal.Camera was not dropped.Batteries have been changed.
