Question about Epson Stylus C46 InkJet Printer
I have a Epson Stylus C46 Inkjet Printer. The black ink cartridge ran out and I replaced it with an after market one. Well that was the last time the printer worked. Of the 2 cartridges I bought I tried the other one and still the printer did not recognise the fact it was an after market cartridge and not the genuine Epson item. I gave the printer one last chance so a bought another make of after market cartridge. Again still the same. So after a few phone calls one to the cartridge supplier (mail order) and the other to my computer ?buff? it was redeemed that the printer electronics had failed after 18 months. Very little use was blamed !!!! I did clean up the electrical connections etc but again still did not work.
Please go to my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk . I have the latest version of SSC Service Utility to download directly onto your computer and instructions on how to use it, what to click on etc etc. Click any of the Epson links if you can't find it, everything you need to know will be there, including printer Firmware resetting which sorts out a multitude of problems.
The 'maintenance required' problem with Epson printers has absolutely nothing to do with which cartridges you are using, it is a built in page counter in your printer firmware, which has a different maximum amount for each Epson model. Don't listen to old wives tales and heresay, we are the experts and it's an Epson scam to cause a lot of people to pay for maintenance or throw their printers away.
I haven't found a model that can't be reset with the latest version of SSC Serve or the manual reset on my site.
For Epson RX500 users there is also a manual reset on my site, as the SSC Serve software won't do it for you.
When using the program & choosing your printer from the list, it may have a weird name with 'x' in the model number, this is because some configurations are for many models in a series. For example, the C46 will be listed as C4x as it is for the C42, C44 & C46 models.
I hope this helps all Epson users to overcome the Epson scam of page counting and locking out until you pay their dealers money for maintenance.
If you like what I've done for Epson users, please show your appreciation by spreading the word and perhaps buying your ink from my site.
Happy trouble free printing

To cure this problem the internal counters of the epson need resetting. normally you would have to take printer to an epson service centre to have this done. however if you are feeling confident there is a free service utility that can be downloaded from ssclg.com
it claims to support (see list on site) most epson printers although i have only used it on a c44.

Have you unplugged the printer from the wall? You should uninstall the printer software and drivers. Unhook the printer from the computer and unplug it from the wall. Leave it unplugged for atleast 2 minutes maybe even 10 minutes just to spite it. Download the latest drivers for your machine. Shut the computer down for 2 minutes. plug the printer back into the wall and the computer, boot the computer re-install the new printer software and drivers. If you have the old empty epson cartridge keep it handy. If the first part didn't work try it again with the old cartridge. Then buy an epson cartridge(kidding) see if epson or the manufactuer of the brandx ink if there is a special way to get the machine to recognize the different brand. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportIndex.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=-10237&infoType=Overview I had an epson that when you refilled the cartridges you would have to use tape over certain contacts at different times so the machine would think it was new cartridges installed. Good Luck, Tim

Usually answered in minutes!
both colour and black ink ran out, so bought new ones, the c 46 recognised the colour cartridge but efused the black one, three black cartridges later and we are still no further forward........tried allsorts....helpppppppppppppp
Epson c45 run fine for a couple of years till it started to refuse printing - simply a job sent to the printer hang in the queue. Restarting the PC helped for a week, then it showed low colour ink. Curiously c45 refused to position the printhead to replace position, both by software and manyally by buttons. I forced it, but both new inks did not help - and I got a message "validity period for a part inside the printer expired". Epson service told me to bring it to service to reset the counter for $75 + parts.
I don't think so - EPSON got me at the b...s again - first time when I found out I cannot refill the ink cartrages and I must use the colour cartrage - second time now by the internal counter forcing you to go to service and bag for $75 help.
I can bu a new printer cheapper.
Think twice before you buy EPSON product!
