I can't hear any speech when I play a DVD, but I have all other sound.
I have an Eltax DR-110. Recently, when I play a DVD, I get a picture, music, backing sound like sound effects and distant voices, but no speech. The Eltax is used as my surround sound for sky tv aswell, and the sound is fine on that. All the speakers are connected properly and they are all sounding fine when watching the tele. I have checked the settings and it is still set up for 5.1 surround sound, and all the cables seem to be in place correctly. I have heard that speech comes from the centre speaker - is that correct. The volumes are turned up on all the speakers.

In order to check your mobiles capability to modulate sound just put your headphone. If you are able to hear the speech through headphone then the problem is with your speaker. If unable to get the speech the problem is with main pcb itself and to repair that you will have to go to service center it will be costly but if you are able to hear through headphone then it will be cheap.
Are you sure your player has got the right codecs to play both audio and video of the DVD you have burnt?
PS: Try installing the Ace Mega Codecs Pack just to make sure you have all the codecs. (Remember though that this software will install all the required codecs as well as the unneeded ones...the ones maybe required in the future probably)
