I'm trying to print on an Epson TM-U220PD Printer. The computer we had at the store has been off for about a year, we only use it for back to school sales. In the past she worked perfectly, but this year, when we turned it on, everything worked fine until we tried to print. The printer icon on the taskbar disappears almost instantly and the print job disappears as if it was done correclty. I've tried placing the printer on the other terminals, and works great. I tried the paralell cable on another computer and works great too. I updated to SP3, Installed new drivers (like the APD_452ce) and nothing seems to work!! I don't know what else to do... please help!

hi basiime
possible issue is port configuration. if the generic text driver works, apd driver should work too.
what may be happen is that when you install the apd driver the other printer drivers that you have were still using the same port that your apd driver were using. example, you have generic txt assigned to lpt1 and then the apd were assigned on the same port, this is were you get the trouble.
what you must do is, first, check any printer driver that you have using the lpt, say for example, you generic text is using lpt1, when you install the apd driver set it to lpt2. apd drivers will create a new port normally called esdprt. try to use that port but if that will not work reassigned the port of your apd driver to lpt2 printer port then uncheck bi-directional support. from there you should be able to print..
hope that resolves your issue.. =)

I spent a good week trying to find an answer to this problem... and finally I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!
it's to do with the Port settings.
go to BIOS and change the port settings on your computer.
there are a number of different options that can be selected, just try them one by one, the one that worked for me was "Normal" try that one first, but it may be differnet depending on the printer.
if your LPT port is using it's own driver (not using BIOS to run) you cant change the settings using the BIOS. see if you can change it useing the settings for the dirver. if not try updating the driver. if that doesn't work, and nothing else works, reinstall Windows, that should fix the problem as a last resort.
good luck.

I have the same problem...Epson does not work with a parallel to usb cable or adapter. If you still want to use this printer you will have to use the parallel port or change the interface on the printer to USB.

Hi, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you.
When you say "SP3" I am assuming you are talking about Windows XP...
I am also assuming "she" is a legacy parallel port printer connect to a POS system.
It sounds like operating system level device conflict, but there is no way knowing based on the information you provided.
Have you tried printing something outside the POS environment on the same system?
Is it a parallel to serial conversion?
Have you tried to forcefully removing the printer driver from the system?
What happens to the print job when sent to the print and what error do you get when it doesn't print?
