Question about Philips FW-R7 CD Shelf System

FW-R7 displays "Locked" when attempting to open CD Trays

I've read the manual over and over again with no luck. We've unplugged the unit, turned on/off demo mode, and still no success opening the cd trays. Both trays will not open, and the display reads "Locked". Please help!

    After a power failure caused by a storm the unit is now stuck in Dealer's display mode and all disc trays are locked.
    Pushing the display button does not solve the situation.
    The radio is all that works.

    Woo-hoo! Got rid of dealer's display by holding down the "Stop" button for about 3 or 4 seconds. Only trouble now is the CD trays are still locked. Jimmy

    Hi Guys. just got off the phone with a phillips senior tech.. solved problem....

    1. switchoff until and un plug power cable from unit.
    2. wait 60 secs
    3. holding power button down ..plug unit back in.
    **this will bring it to th dealer mode (but still follow all steps, or will not work)
    4. now hold stop button for 3 to 4 secs. (this turns off demo mode and powers unit down.)
    5. turn power on and press open close on main cd tray..

    ***unit should now be unlocked and playable again. ENJOY!!!

    The 'Unlocked' CD tray will not open even though it displays 'OPEN'. Press "Open" again and the display shows 10 34:12 . There 10 songs on the CD and it plays normally. The system just will not open the tray. I have unplugged the system and also done a system reset.

You were close, but didn't explain it very well. If you push on the 'DISPLAY' button (left side of machine as you are facing it, about half way down) when the unit is off, it will say something like "DEALER MODE", push it again to return it to regular mode. You may have to press and hold the button to get it to display 'DEALER MODE', then when everything is normal, "DEALER MODE" just goes off and isn't replaced by anything. Hope I explained it well. When I put a cd in the recorder drawer it keeps opening after I close it. What should I do ?

My unit has started doing the same thing about 6 months ago (the record cd tray keeps opening again after a new disc is inserted.) My unit is about 10 years old so I figured it might be because I've recorded so many CD's and it's not sensing the disc correctly. I'm stubborn, so every time this happens I press the button to reload the disc and keep doing that until it loads correctly and starts reading/initializing. Sometimes it loads after a couple of opening/closing attempts, sometimes it takes a dozen or so attempts. But eventually it loads. It's frustrating to do this but it's worth it because this is such a good unit. However, most importantly the best possible and correct type of discs must be used. The only ones that have worked consistently for me (very rarely is there a bad disc) are Sony CRM80RS. I use these exclusively now. As of April 2011 they're still available online from Amazon and Walmart, and other sites too. Sold in 30 or 50 packages and fairly inexpensive. I've just read some of the other answers on this site and realize the problem could also be connected to a dirty laser, so I'm going to try wiping the 'eye' very gently with a Q-tip. It might help.

My recently made music CD will NOT play in our Philips FW-R7. It will play on all our computers and DVD players. The message is "Wrong Disc." Other music CD we've made do play fine in the FW-R7.

This is common with burned cd's they have trouble playing in different sets. Do prerecorder cd's play fine in your philips? If those are having trouble also you could improve it's playability possibly with a cleaning of the opu. Optical pick up.

CANCELLING the demo mode

Once the demo has started, press the STOP button on the front panel for 3 seconds. Demo will stop and the unit will enter standby.

Recording trouble

Hi again,

I understand. Must be a glitch somewhere. Anyways, I already posted possible solutions here your original posting/problem. They were:
1. Power on the Philips FW-R7, leave the left tray empty and closed. Open the tray and put in a recorded CD (not a CDR but a regular CD from your music collection), close the right tray. Wait a couple of seconds as the FW-R7 reads the CD. Now open the tray, remove the music CD and insert your CDR. The FW-R7 should read the CDR without the error message and record to the CDR from any source. Let me know if this works for you;
2. laser cleaning or realignment (would need a service center);
3. try using lower then 40X blank CDs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Shelf system shuts after a few minutes philips FW-R7

In power supply check capacitors ,one of them is leake or dry.Best way of detecting this cap is to have freez it (coolant) to sprey on the sections in power supply and thanindividual capacitors this will definately solve your problem.

Philips CDR796 CD Recorder

You power off then power back on while holding down the fast forward and rewind buttons on the recording side simultaneously. The display moves through a sequence of numbers and the trays will then open.
