Start the computer in safe mode and run System Restore

  1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, click the arrow next to Shut Down, and then click Restart.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You must press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
    • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.
  3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter.
  4. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights. When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your monitor.
  5. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, type "system restore" in the search box, click System Restore, and then click Next. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  6. Choose a restore point when your PC worked as expected, click Next, and then click Finish.
  7. Restart your computer normally.
If these steps solve the problem, you're done. If not, try repeating the steps and selecting an older restore point (if one is available). If that still doesn't solve the problem, contact your computer manufacturer or technical support for further assistance.

Toshiba satellite L675 freezes after startup. Windows &

Boot the computer into "Safe Mode".

To boot PC into Safe Mode follow these steps:

1. Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
2. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
3. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected, not Repair Your Computer
4. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
5. When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would

If the computer boots into Safe Mode you can try disabling Startup Programs, one of these might be causing your computer to freeze. To do this follow these steps:

1 Press Start. Type msconfig into the search bar and press Enter. For XP, click on Run and type msconfig there.

For PRO you can do this in normal mode
When the system has booted to the desktop, use the following steps to change the accounts password.
1.Click Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools.
2.Click Computer Management.
3.Double click Local Users and Groups, double click the folder Users.

Started freezing up frequently. I have to take

Try in the safe mode. If the system freezes up in the safe mode, run a Diags on the hard drive. Most Laptops have inbuilt Diags for the hardware available in the boot options screen. If the Diags pass, do an OS re-installation. You can also try system restore, but the issue can come up again. If you have data, you can try safe mode. If it works, back up your data, and then reinstall the OS.
If the system does not freeze up in the safe mode, go to msconfig, disable all Startup items and non-microsoft services. Startup in the normal mode. Enable the Startup programs one after the other, and you will be able to identify the problem creating application. This can also be a problem of virus infection. So when in the safe mode, after disabling all Startup programs, and un-hiding file extensions and system files, run a virus scan. MalwareBytes is a free and very effective program that can be installed and run in the safe mode.
