Trying to figure out problem before caving into the dealer. Problem: Blower fan works, then don't work, then works, etc. When it's working it's fine (all speeds) both heat and A/C. It will just cut out or if car is restarted on another trip later in day it might not work. A/C light switch is not affected. Thinkings a resistor but thought that was only if fan works on highest setting. Or could it be switch? Fan itself?

fords are notorius for faulty fan switches, you will need to get a new one, but it will probably fail in a year or two.
SOURCE: Lincoln 2000 town car Blower doesn't work at HI-MED-LOW speeds...
it is called blower motor resistor , should be close to blower motor , you will see a plug type connector with two screws , remove the screws and there should be a resistor inside the cover for the motor, swap with new and reassemble

Look under the dash on passenger side and just to the left of the blower motor housing you will see the 4WD control module.Remove the 2 screws holding the module and let it hang down and your resistors are behind this.Remove the 2 screws holding the resistors and remove.
Now I am assuming you have manual climate control and not electonic.

the hvac selector switch in the dash may be the problem. You need to remove the switch and look at the connector on the back of switch, see if there are any burnt wires at the connector or switch. It's all electronic and the switches have been known to burn out on this and other model.
