Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 T-CON replacement

Hi, I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100, which recently stopped working. When powered on screen remains blank then the unit turns itself off and the standby light starts flashing 14 times in row. I did some research and the most likely cause was described as a faulty T-CON board. I pulled it out, the model number printed on the PCB was 404652ASNC6LV4.5. Sony part number for this TV model and serial number is 1-857-273-11. There are numerous parts suppliers that list this board under its Sony part number (or its Samsung equivalent LJ94-02380G), however all of them are out of stock at this time. This board is also available from other suppliers, which do not specifically state that the board is for a KDL-46W4100 TV (http://www.ledbos.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3151, http://ehservice.ca/parts/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=412, http://magictvparts.com/store/sony-52/404652asnc6lv4-5-lcd-controller/). Can these "generic" boards be used as a drop-in replacement for the original part without some sort of a firmware change? Thank you for any clarification!

Hi,

Sounds like there is a short on the power board or the power board has gone faulty.

Look on the power board to see if any of the capacitors are bulged or if there are any other components burnt out. The TV is going into protect mode because of an over current, which points to a short on the board or a component has gone short circuit.

SOURCE: Sony Bravia KDL-40S3000...standby red light blinks

There may be no horizontal ouput, Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

If you are not afraid of taking the tv apart you can check the connections of the ribbon cables and check to see if you have any swollen capacitors. If these look good your control board may be going out.

Looking at a negative screen
Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100 models have a problem with the screen going blank, faded or washed out ( negative ghosting) . It is caused by a bad chip on the T-con board. A replacement chip is available from shopjimmy.com (Sony 55.40T02.C08 T-Con Board Component Repair Kit) for $14.95- If your not an excellent solderer, send your board to them for a repair $69.95.

This is on protection mode and an error indication. Switch off TV, remove plug after switching off power outlet, wait for 48 hours and retry. If problem persists, it might need attention by a qualified service technician.

Check the main filter capacitors at its power regulator board. Replace if found bulged or damaged. Replace all secondary side supply rails' filter capacitors too. The fault is with damaged electrolytic capacitors at the power regulator board itself.

HI,
Your tv have problem with the T con board. The t con board drives the Pixels in the lcd screen . If there is some problem with the t con board then this can exibits such problem as you mentioned. Normally you can find the t con board in the bottom center of the lcd coverd with a metal cover. Its part number is SONY T-CON: E40951307. If its avilable then try to replace the same which will solve the problem. Its a regular complaint with the Lcd tv's. I have added the picture of tcon board.

Som times if there is any loose conatct in the pannel connection which comes to the t con board then also the same problem can occur. Before going to replace the board do one thing remove all the connections to the t con board and reconnect it. Some times it will solve the problem. Basically it is problem of lcd panel (screen) but some times T-Con board (it is also part of lcd panel) replacement fix the issue.
T-Con board is located top center of lcd panel at back and need to take off back cover of tv to see it, this board would be covered under metal shield.
Expertise are required to replace this board and novice can damage lcd panel (screen) permanently.
