Question about Sharp AL 1631 Copier
Machine will not make copy's. Paper runs thru, toner cartridges is new. There are not code's flashing. All looks like it is working properly. Some tell me that I need to replace the drum. The machine is about a year old but no where need 18,000 copy's were made. If it needs a drum I will replace it but just want to be sure. Thanks
Hello. Thank you for your solution. Our copier suddenly gave only blank papers. We changed the toner cartridge, then pulled out the drum, at which point a think silver screen (mangled) fell out. Is this the tungsten wire you referred to above? If so, where can we get another...and where on earth does it go once we get a replacement? :-) Thank you for your assistance.

You could have one of several problems. Seeing as how you just replaced the toner, it could be a defective toner. Did you have the trouble prior to cartridge replacement? Did you replace it with OEM or after-market/refurbed stuff? You could also have a broken corotron wire. On the right side door is an assembly that has a very fine tungsten wire strung across it. This wire places a charge on the paper to "pull" the image off the drum. if it's broken, you will get blank (or almost blank) images). A 3rd possibility I have seen is that your scanner lock is on. Usually this will cause L1 codes, but I have seen cases where it didn't, and your scanner never moves from "home" position to scan your originals, again, resulting in no image being processed, and therefore blank copies. The scanner lock is under the scanner assembly (above the area where your copies come out) on the left side of the machine. It is a dial mechanism that can be turned to either the locked or unlocked position. It's hard to see, and you almost have to stand on your head to get a good view of it. It is not uncommon that in the process of removing copies from the "catch tray" area to accidentally brush it with one's hand, or watch, or ring, and spin it to the locked position. Certainly a bad drum can effect copy quality as well, but before spending the money, I'd check/re-check the other 3 first.

You can reset this indicator by pressing these keys in sequence:
Press "C" then press "Exposure Mode" then "C" again then "Exposure Mode" again.
Note that the Exposure Mode key is the far left key on the panel.
One you press these 4 keys in sequence the display should go blank. Then key in 24 as if to make 24 copies. Then press Print (Green Button)
Then key in 7 as if to make 7 copies.
Press print again. You should now get flashing 000.
Turn machine off then back on and the light should be gone.
Here it is in a short version:
C, far left, C, far left, 24, print, 7, print,
then power off and back on.

the problem in your machine is on the drum unit there is a arching on the mc unit.located in the upper portion of the drum unit.if you have an old drum unit try to install it again just for testing.and check if ther is a dumping toner again.
