You should be able to put the DVD in the tray and should automatically recognize it and go into the movie.
What type of media are you trying to watch. PS2's cannot play blu-ray movies.

Open "control panel" go to "hardware and sounds" then go to "play cds and other media automatically" You may want to select "ask me every time" for each option.

You mean, you burn the CD in your PC but you can't play it in external CD player ?
Maybe you didn't burned it in "movie" mode, just burned in "data" mode. As you know, CD player can't play .avi or .mkv or other video formats. They only can play movie in .DAT format, and when you burn in "make a movie" mode, the burner will convert your movie to this format so you can re-open your movie via CD player.
Or there is an error during the burning time, if this happen then you have to re-burn your movie into another CD.

if it is a video cd - it can be opened from Windows Media Player, Winamp, Nero Vision and many other video players available on net. By inserting the CD inside, windows will open a dialog box asking you, with which program you want to open it - just select the program and press ok.

But for playing any video cd manually, if it is a VCD - open CDROM from my computer - Open "MPEGAV'" folder - and play any file with extension ".dat"

For playing Video DVD - Open CDROM from My Computer - Open "Video_TS" folder - Play any file which is having extension ".BUF".

Insert a DVD movie.
Open "My Computer".
Right-mouse click on the icon for your CD/DVD drive, and click "Explore".
If the hardware is working correctly, you should see a list of files & folders.

Search online for the free 'VLC' software for playing DVD-movies. Download it, and install it, to "play" your DVD-movie.

Dude ....jus insert your cd/dvd in the computer..! Then go to My computer>open disk drive>Open your movie file...!!
If you don't have the software to play that file...then download this software...This will play almost every video file...
